slAmazon’s Takes In-App Purchases Out Of Beta: Here’s How They Compromised On Revenue Sharehttp://techcrunch.com/2012/04/10/amazons-takes-in-app-purchases-out-of-beta-heres-how-theyre-getting-around-that-pricing-issue/

.

- based off Amazon’s 1-click buying experience and applies to digital content like in-game currency, expansion packs, upgrades and subscriptions from inside apps and games.
- Amazon still has ability to discount in-app items (ala apps in appstore). But the developers will always earn 70% of the list price or what they wanted to charge for it
- QUOTE Amazon appstore’s director Aaron Rubenson: “We’re just following the paradigm that’s out there with the 70-30 spli. This is a little bit different from the revenue share that we have for paid app sales. We looked at each purchase case separately.”
- Amazon isn’t mandating that developers only use the company’s in-app purchasing service.
- Google’s in-app purchasing technology won’t work on the Kindle Fire, devs must use Amazon’s system. But on other tablets and phones, devs can use any number of in-app purchasing systems.
- appstore launched last year, developers would either earn 20% of what they wanted to charge or 70% of whatever Amazon charged — whatever was higher.
- app store up to around 34,000 apps
- Report by Flurry that measure revenue per user over a 45-day period, from mid-January through the end of February 2012:
the average revenue/user from Amazon’s store is about 89% of what Apple iOS platform produces. Google's at 23% of iOS. Amazon’s userbase is still much smaller than Google Play's.

Hey TNT,

On the topic of iPad becoming a generic term for tablets, Sarah didn't think that someone would refer to an android tablet as an iPad, unfortunately people do and it's worse than you think. When the first android tablets started to appear I heard more than one mainstream news outlet refer to the Galaxy tab as "Samsung's new iPad". I even recall some news outlets saying the same thing about the RIM playbook when it was released which is way more recent than the Galaxy tab. I'm sure it happens way more often than you might think so I think it is entirely possible that this could happen as frustrating as that sounds, maybe taking away the iPad numbering system isn't a good idea afterall.

Oh, also my daughter who is almost two refers to the attached image as her iPad. It is an apple though, she's at least on the right track so I'll cut her a little slack.

Keep up the great work. Listening to your show is one of my favourite parts of the day.

Tyler

We received several emails like this saying HP Touchpads and Samsung Galaxy Tabs and even a Kindle Touch were being called iPads by others. One person said his girlfriend kept calling his Galaxy Nexus an iPhone.
