Microsoft hasn't said when that will be available, but people think that version of Office 2013 will hit in early 2013. Office for Windows RT won't include macro support or things that rely on ActiveX, so it's going to be a little more limited compared to the other version.http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/09/office-2013-arriving-in-november-at-least-for-some/

tmWhy the iPhone 5 on Verizon and Sprint Won’t Juggle Calls and Datahttp://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/13/iphone-5-calls-data/

Still no simultaneous voice and data on the Verizon or Sprint iPhone 5http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/09/still-no-simultaneous-voice-and-data-on-the-verizon-or-sprint-iphone-5/

Apple's iPhone 5 puts Europe in 4G slow lanehttp://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/hardware/apples-iphone-5-puts-europe-in-4g-slow-lane/articleshow/16397374.cms

.

Why do Sprint and Verizon phones not do calls and data simultaneously?
Brian Chen for the NYTimes has a great article explaining
- LTE networks can't currently do voice, ATT, Sprint and Verizon have to route all voice calls over 3G
- On AT&T this is GSM which can do voice and data simultaneously.
- For Sprint and Verizon this is CDMA with EVDO standard which is data-only instead of EVDV which does data and voice.
- How does SGSIII do it? Extra antenna that pulls in LTE data while voice goes over CDMA.
- Apple has two antennae to improve reception, it would have to shoehorn in a third.
No 800MHz or 2.6 GHz band support means no LTE in many countries like France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and more.

.

iaMeg Whitman says HP has to 'offer a smartphone'http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/14/meg-whitman-says-hp-has-to-offer-a-smartphone/

.

- Meg Whitman talked with Fox Business and said that HP "ultimately has to offer a smartphone." w/ a focus on developing markets where smartphones are the first computer people get a hold of.
- Whitman says HP is working on it
- "We took a detour into smartphones, we've got to get it right this time"

Q: Does HP (or any traditional PC maker) really have to create a phone and if they do, what OS should they go with - webOS, Android, BBX, or WP8?

iaHow Your Wireless Carrier Overcharges You
http://www.technologyreview.com/news/429181/how-your-wireless-carrier-overcharges-you/

.

University of California, Los Angeles, computer science PhD researcher Chunyi Peng probed the systems of two large U.S. cell-phone networks

- The researchers determined that even typical use of a phone could lead the data to be overcounted by 5 to 7 percent,
- The problem stems from the way networks count data use. They count data as it leaves the heart of a company's network and sets out on the journey to the mobile tower nearest a subscriber. That means data is counted whether a phone receives it or not.
- The problem affects video and audio streaming apps in particular because they use protocols that don't require the receiving device to acknowledge the receipt of every chunk of data, as Web browsers or many other apps do.
- The researchers also found that data use can be hidden from the two cellular networks they tested. Ex: DNS request
- An app developed to exploit that was able to use 200 megabytes of data without the carrier recording any of it, a tactic that mobile carriers would probably like to block.
