The company is pulling engineers off OS X 10.9 in order to make sure iOS 7 ships on time, or so sources tell Daring Fireball's John Gruber. current iOS engineers with off-campus carry privileges must use a polarizing screen filter to make it difficult for the great unwashed to see iOS' "rather significant system-wide UI overhaul." iMore's Rene Ritchie also reports Jony Ive's new involvement in iOS is "apparently making many people really happy, but will also apparently make rich-texture-loving designers sad." http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/04/rumors-swirl-about-ios-7-delays-ui-overhauls-and-more/

tmThe FTC put a bounty on killing robocalls, and the bounty hunters have arrived. The FTC Robocall Challenge kicked off in October and the $50,000 prize has now been split between Serdar Danis and Aaron Foss. Their proposals would place numbers on a blacklist and whitelist and incorporate a CAPTCHA-style test to prevent illegal calls from ringing through. Danis's plan requires an app, or a device, while Foss's would use a cloud-based system. Google's Daniel Klein and Dean Jackson won the Robocall Technology Achievement award with an algorithm approach. That award was for companies with more than ten people and awarded no cash prize.http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2417324,00.asp

iaThere's a new proposal in California that's backed by the ACLU of Northern California, the EFF and others. It's called "The Right to Know Act" and it aims to bring transparency to data exchanges. Upon user request, a company would have to give a user access to the data it has collected about that user. The company would also have to disclose a list of companies it has exchanged that data with. If you're in California and want to support the bill, the EFF has a form you can fill out so you can send an email to your local lawmakers. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2013/04/new-california-right-know-act-would-let-consumers-find-out-who-has-their-personal

Twitter Introducing New Card Types, Mobile App Installs And Deep Linking, At Developer Meetup

.

App Installs and Deep-Linkinghttps://dev.twitter.com/docs/cards/app-installs-and-deep-linkingIMAGE

.

Product Cardhttps://dev.twitter.com/docs/cards/types/product-cardIMAGE

.

- Twitter unveiled new tech in its cards interface for developers today
- When you see an embedded tweet, that's a twitter card
- Twitter cards will be able to show more information like: mobile app links, photo galleries and product information
- So if you saw a cross post from Path to Twitter, you'd see a "Get the Path app" link on the bottom of the Twitter card. That app link will show up only on mobile platforms
- First partners incl. Foursquare, SoundCloud, Etsy and Flickr
- Cards can also show off photo galleries. In an example card from Boston.com, you'd see a tweet, four pictures, a title, a caption, and a snippet of information
Twitter now has a total of six styles of cards

The following require special approval: app cards (link to your app - iOS & Android only, not mobile web), product cards, player card

Does not req special approval: gallery card, photo card, summary card

Q: Text is still limited to 140 characters, how much information is too much information for a tweet? Will developers want to build these tools for Twitter after Twitter's API changes?

Hi crew

I am in line for a model S and receive an email today explaining the upgrade or my 40kW battery size. To explain, you can upgrade the 40kW to the 60kW now or later:

...can be upgraded to the range of the 60 kWh pack upon request by you or a future owner.

Your current Model S order will now be automatically updated to include the software limited 60 kWh battery. If you would like to upgrade to full 60 kWh range now, before your car goes into production, you can do so for $10,000. If you choose not to upgrade now, you have the option to upgrade to full 60 kWh range at a later date for $11,000.

If you choose to upgrade your battery, you can then also purchase the Supercharger upgrade and receive unlimited, free long distance travel for life. Supercharging can be added before production for $2,000, or at a later date for $2,500.

So I get an upgrade for free! Woohoo! I can upgrade later for the above fee.

I hope this is not an April fool's joke!

Finally Élan Musk, I have to wait until June for mine! What?!

Saving the environment one electronic car at a time,

George
