tmSamsung conducted what many consider one of the worst product announcements in history yesterday, but despite all that, the Samsung Galaxy S IV looks like a pretty good phone. It comes with a 5-inch 1080p 441 pip Super AMOLED Display, runs JellyBean, packs in 2 GB of RAM and carries a 13-megapixel camera and a 2600 mAh battery. Processors vary by region, but some will get the Exynos 5 Octa 8-core processors. The phone will start rolling out worldwide at the end of April, the 26th for the UK. No price was announced.http://techcrunch.com/2013/03/14/samsung-galaxy-s-4-beats-the-best-with-5-inch-1080p-display-1-9ghz-processor-gesture-controls-and-a-q2-2012-release/

slSamsung presidents Yoon Boo-keun and J.K. Shin have been appointed co-CEOs of Samsung Electronics, joining current vice chairman and CEO Kwon Oh-hyun. Samsung Electronics now has three CEOs... serving alongside COO, president, and likely future Samsung head Lee Jae-yong. My head hurts. http://www.theverge.com/2013/3/14/4106720/samsung-appoints-two-new-co-ceos-following-galaxy-s4-launch

iaNPD released a report on video games in the U.S. for February 2013. Dead Space 3 was the top selling game for that month, followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Crysis 3 at number three. For the month, gamers spent a total of $810 million on video game hardware, accessories, and software. That may sound like a lot of money, but that figure is down 25% compared to last year at the same time. For the 26th month in a row, Microsoft's XBox 360 was the top selling console. http://venturebeat.com/2013/03/14/february-npd-dead-space-3-takes-top-spot-crysis-3-cant-outpace-call-of-duty/

tmReuters Deputy Social Media Editor Matthew Keys has been indicted for violations of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Keys allegedly gave out login information in an IRC chat room that led to the defacement of an LATimes article's headline. Keys faces up to 25 years in prison for aiding the vandalism and up to $750,000 in fines.http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2416637,00.asp

slFacebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has topped the ratings of CEOs in a report released today from a Glassdoor survey of its members. "This guy is absolutely shocking me in how mature he's behaving," says Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter. "I think it's impressive that Zuckerberg, who never had a job before and has had no formal training, is so articulate." Obviously some analysts are pretty smitten with Facebook Poke. http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2013/03/15/apple-tim-cook-facebook-mark-zuckerberg/1989569/

iaAccording to Bloomberg, Microsoft's sold 1.5M Surface devices since the line launched with the Surface RT in October of last year. 400,000 of those devices were the Surface Pro, which made its debut in February. These figures from Bloomberg are lower than projections from analysts. If you want to contrast numbers with the tablet leader, Apple sold 22.9 million iPads in Q4 of 2012. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-03-14/microsoft-s-surface-tablet-is-said-to-fall-short-of-predictions.html

tmReuters reports China Mobile will spend $6.7 billion US to upgrade it's network to TD-LTE. The announcement was part of a wider $30.1 billion investment and comes on the heels of the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S IV and in advance of Apple's next iPhone which may arrive not he network. China Mobile is the world's largest mobile carrier with 715 million subscribers but only operates a TD-SCDMA network which is incompatible with the current iPhone.http://www.tuaw.com/2013/03/15/china-mobile-will-spend-6-7-billion-on-4g-network-preparing-fo/

slHey Twitter, watch your back! The Wall street Journal reports that Facebook plans to launch its own version of the hashtag, allowing users to connect common themes and trending topics around the social network by adding the simple hashtag symbol to a status update. Get ready for all your high school friends to not understand how hashtags work, and make a giant news feed mess. In other news, Facebook is sidestepping Google by pushing an update to the social network’s open app to Android users today… and the update isn’t coming from the Google Play Store. The Facebook app on your phone downloads the update automatically and then beeps or vibrates incessantly until you install it (or uninstall the app altogether).http://allthingsd.com/20130314/facebook-to-introduce-hashtags-and-thats-a-double-edged-sword-for-twitter/

iaMicrosoft's Internet Explorer 10 will indeed support Flash with a few exceptions. Sites on a blacklist won't be able to load Flash content and that blacklist is now public. Let's take a look -- there are about a dozen on there and it seems to apply just on the ARM platform, meaning Windows RT. On the list there's HBO.com, news24.jp, and what? TWiT.tv?! Okay, everybody calm down - TWiT.tv still works on Windows RT. You'll just get the HTML5 version. HBO on the other hand gives you the message "Sorry, you must have the Flash Player installed..."http://www.zdnet.com/hbo-and-twit-tv-top-microsofts-new-flash-blacklist-7000012644/

slFacebook to Introduce Hashtags — And That’s a Double-Edged Sword for Twitterhttp://allthingsd.com/20130314/facebook-to-introduce-hashtags-and-thats-a-double-edged-sword-for-twitter/

.

- WSJ & ATD both have sources that say FB is incorporating the hashtag
- Twitter’s real-time stream shows immediate crowd feedback. Facebook’s Friend Graph is complex but can't search by term.
- at News Feed redesign event last week FB demo'd breaking up feed into verticals, having entire chronological stream ala Twitter.
- If a user follows a hashtag about #desserts, a company like Hostess could sell ads against anyone who searches that hashtag, sticking a promoted tweet for their delightful pink Sno-Balls in front of everyone following the hashtag.
- IG is full of hashtags, kind of a mess
- Twitter often seen as geeky lexicon to my FB friends, they don't get @ & #
q: are our FB friends from high school ready to start hashtagging?

iaPS4 not worth the cost, says Nvidia
http://www.gamespot.com/news/ps4-not-worth-the-cost-says-nvidia-6405300

.

- Senior VP of content and technology Tony Tamasi told Gamespot that Nvidia turned down Sony to be a part of the PS4
- Tamasi said, "...we came to the conclusion that we didn't want to do the business at the price those guys were willing to pay."
- Nvidia tech was in the original Xbox and in the PS3 Tamasi said "we understand the economics of [console development] and the tradeoffs."
- The PS4 will run on an AMD chip (and that's the rumor on the next Xbox)
- "we had to look at console business as an opportunity cost. If we say, did a console, what other piece of our business would we put on hold to chase after that?"

Q: Does this kind of statement by Nvidia mean that console gaming is on a deathwatch or does it just mean that mobile tech is hot?
