tmGoogle's changing all kinds of things. Yesterday morning it was Andy Rubin leaving the Android team. Last night Google announced it will shut down its RSS reader on July 1. The company explained that usage had declined, which sparked a petition on Change.org with around 50,000 signers asking Google to change its mind. And finally this morning, the Wall Street Journal reports Google's Jeff Huber will leave the Maps and Commerce unit to work in Google's X lab. The unit itself will be divided with Maps going to the Search department and Commerce falling under the advertising group.http://googlereader.blogspot.com/2013/03/powering-down-google-reader.html?spref=tw&m=1

Among his own statistics, Mr. Schiller cited a survey from research firm ChangeWave that found that around three-quarters of iPhone users say they are "very satisfied" with their device compared with around half of Android users.

Twitter’s Music App Will Let You Watch, Too, With Help From Vevo http://allthingsd.com/20130313/twitters-music-app-will-let-you-watch-too-with-help-from-vevo/

.

- CNet reports that Twitter acquired music discovery service "We Are Hunted" last year and is planning to build a standalone music app called "Twitter Music"
- The app could be released on iOS by the end of the month
- Twitter Music would suggest songs and artists based on which accounts a user follows on Twitter
- Tracks stream via SoundCloud. There is also the option to listen to song previews from the iTunes store
- AllThingsD's Peter Kafka has more details: Twitter signed Vevo to display clips in the app. Kafka thinks that may be the only way for users of Twitter music to listen to an entire track

Details on the App itself:
- It's twitter branded. Launching it brings up a tour. The app doesn't require you have a twitter account to use.
- The app would have four main tabs: Suggested, NowPlaying, Popular and Emerging

Q: Peter Kafka at AllThingsD wondered the effect of such a service - will it grow the Twitter user base as a whole or will such a service just segment the existing audience?

Samsung says there’s no demand for Windows RT tablets in Europehttp://www.geek.com/articles/gadgets/samsung-says-theres-no-demand-for-windows-rt-tablets-in-europe-2013036/

.

- Research house Detwiler Fenton says that Samsung may be screwing with Microsoft
- “Our checks indicate that Samsung may be intentionally gobbling up Microsoft’s smartphone resources as a strategic move to impede the adoption of Windows Phone 8,” says Detwiler Fenton analyst Jeff Johnston
- He says that Samsung insists on receiving extensive engineering support from Microsoft and it gets the help it wants
- Why do all this? IN theory, MS is tied up with Samsung and can't help another OEM
- Meanwhile, Samsung twirls its mustache and keeps building out its Tizen OS

Q: Do you believe Detwiler Fenton's theory? Could Samsung make Windows Phone a hit if it wanted?
Samsung's line of Windows Phones:
- Samsung ATIV S runs WP8. Effectively a Galaxy S3 w/ a different OS
- Samsung Ativ Odyssey, a budget WP8 device
- Samsung had 4 WP7.5 devices

Compare to MS's buddies: Nokia has 7 WP8 devices, HTC has 2

- Samsung also refused to release a Windows RT-based tablet in the U.S. due to concerns that consumers would be confused. Samsung also pulled its RT tablet from Germany saying there is a lack of demand.

Greetings TNT crew,

In your last show (709) you discussed Intel providing a pre-alpha of Android 4.2.2 with dual boot, and Tom said he would like to try dual booting a phone just to see how it is.

Well, this is possible on the international Galaxy S2 and S3 thanks to a custom kernel by a developer on XDA forum. It allows having 2 versions of Android on the same device.

I use it on my Galaxy S3 for ROM testing (being myself a ROM modder on XDA), and it just works: 2 different Android builds with completely separated sets of apps and user settings, I find it very useful. But as you said, dual booting is not for everybody, I also don't see it useful for every person, it is just for some special uses.

Just my tip for you..
