tmLots of folks are buzzing about Jacqui Cheng's photo gallery on Ars Technica showing off an early prototype of the iPhone from 2005 essentially a breadboard attached to a display. The device was about 5" x 7" and two inches thick with USB ports, an Ethernet port, and even a serial port, likely for ease of testing. The ARM chip inside looks like a variant of the Samsung S3C2410, which Ars writer Andrew Cunnigham called an older slower relative of the chip used in the first iPhone.http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/03/exclusive-super-early-iphone-prototype-had-5x7-screen-serial-port/

- The box also has internet content like Hulu Plus, YouTube, and Spotify. No Netflix.
- It costs $99, but it also has a $6/month charge OR you can pay $150 for a lifetime pass. So if you want it free and clear from the start, it'll cost you $250.

The Authors Guild and the Association of American Publishers filed complaints with ICANN. B&N also complained.
- Amazon requesting TLDs like ".book," ".author" and ".read."
- "Placing such generic domains in private hands is plainly anticompetitive, allowing already dominant, well-capitalized companies to expand and entrench their market power," Authors Guild President Scott Turow wrote
- B&N added, "Amazon's ownership would also threaten the openness and freedom of the Internet and would have harmful consequences for Internet users worldwide."
- Amazon has also applied for .amazon and .kindle .free, .like, .game, and .shop. In all, Amazon has applied for control of 76 gTLDs, but 30 of them are contested. Google applied for 101, 23 of which Amazon also applied for
- new extensions will begin appearing online in the second half of 20
Key considerations for approving gTLD
How contested strings (or names) will be determined;
How applications for geographic names will be considered;
Technical requirements for new names that encompass internationalized domain names;
The rights of intellectual property holders;
How morality and public order objections can be raised;
The cost of the evaluation process and how it is constructed.

Hello TNT crew,

I was listening to your discussion about Google Glass being able to recognize your friends by what they are wearing and found it really silly. Tom mentioned that some people cannot recognize faces (this disorder is called Prosopagnosia), but this is not due to problems with their eyes, it is due to damage to certain areas of the brain. These individuals already have alternative ways of recognizing their friends! I have a feeling they would be more accurate at doing this than a computer.

I do not have Prosopagnosia, however I do have severe visual impairments. As a result, I cannot see faces of friends from afar. I primarily use the way the person is walking (everyone has a unique walk) along with certain cues such as height, hairstyle, and yes even clothing (if it's winter and someone has a distinctive coat that they always wear, for example) to recognize them.

I would not need Google Glass to do this for me. However, if I have not planned on meeting someone or am not paying attention, I do miss people who wave to me or whatnot and often have to explain myself if the person does not know of my visual difficulties. What would be amazing is if Google Glass could recognize faces, but that is a very complex process that occurs in the brain, and even scientists don't understand how it works, so I doubt that Google Glass could do this with high accuracy.
