slUS Representative Darrell Issa has introduced a piece legislation that would prevent politicians from passing laws or regulations that might drastically change the Internet over the next 2 calendar years. - "Google Shopping is nothing more than a list of targeted ads that unsuspecting customers assume are search results. They call these "Product Listing Ads" a "truly great search'. We say that when you limit choices and rank them by payment, consumers get Scroogled. For an honest search result, try Bing."
- includes line from google's founder letter in 2004: "we do not accept payment for [search results] or for inclusion or more frequent updating."
- The move follows a change by Google to move to a model where all merchants pay either per click or per transaction to be included in Google Shopping.

.

- MIT Technology Review has an inside look at Google's future plans: "Daily Information Needs Study"
- MIT Technology Review editor Tom Simonite is now part of a Google experiment where he gets called by Google at 8 random times a day and is asked "What did you want to know recently?"
- Google is conducting this experiment with about 150 people
- So what kind of data is Google expecting? “Maybe [these users are] asking a friend, or they have to look up a manual to put together their Ikea furniture,” says Jon Wiley, lead user experience designer for Google search.
Answers Simonite has given to Google's question
- How long the line in the local grocery store
- questions generated when cooking a meal, reading a novel

So where is this going?
- Wiley's comments suggest Google will use the multitude of devices people have to answer questions before asking (like Google Now does with GPS and other inputs)

Q: Is there a downside of getting answers before you ask them? Privacy concerns?

sliPad And Android Tablet Market Share Margin Narrows Much Faster Than Originally Predictedhttp://techcrunch.com/2012/11/28/ipad-and-android-tablet-market-share-margin-narrows-much-faster-than-originally-predicted/

.

- latest figures from ABI Research: iPad has a 55% share of all shipments during past Q, Android at 44%
- slimmest lead ever, 14%loss from the previous quarter. Android could overtake the iPad for tablet share by next year
- back in 2011 Gartner study suggested Apple would keep 47% of the market by 2015, with Android 38%.
- ABI says iPad mini not going to give apple much of a boost
- No other platform is competing yet- HP’s webOS isn't, RIM’s PlayBook isn't.
- Android winners: Kindle (no #s from amazon), Nexus 7 (manufacturer Asus said in Oct sales approaching 1M per month)
- meanwhile, a Dutch court has banned sales of Samsung Galaxy products that infringe on an Apple patent describing a way to scroll through a photo gallery using a touchscreen. samsung lost a case over this patent in 2011, says it made changes to software to not infringe. but showed court no evidence. Peter Blok, one of three judges in case, said he would grant the ban because Samsung refused to sign a declaration of abstinence committing to not infringing the patent.

iaWindows Blue is Microsoft's future low-cost OS with yearly updates
http://www.theverge.com/2012/11/28/3693368/windows-blue-update-low-cost

.

- The Verge reports that MS is standardizing on an approach for Windows and Windows Phone codenamed Blue
- Microsoft is aiming to make Windows Blue the next OS that everyone installs by selling it at a low cost or even free to ensure users upgrade.
- Once Windows Blue is released, the Windows SDK will be updated to support the new release and Microsoft will stop accepting apps that are built for Windows 8, pushing developers to create apps for Blue.
- [Debunk the app-panic] That doesn't mean Win8 apps won't work in the future, that means a push towards a new app structure

- Microsoft will likely keep the Windows 8 name for the foreseeable future, despite the Windows Blue update.
- due in mid-2013, will include UI changes and alterations
- A big part of Windows Blue is the push towards yearly updates for Microsoft’s OS.

Q: We've seen quick upgrade cycles from Apple and Ubuntu - is this something Microsoft needs to do?

Internet royalty rate hearings in US Congress begin today
- Pandora CEO Joe Kennedy, National Association of Broadcasters president Bruce Reese, Recording Academy chairman emeritus Jimmy Jam, and SoundExchange president Michael Huppe. David Pakman, partner of Venrock Capital, and Jeffrey Eisenach, managing director of Navigant Economics as expert witnesses
- Satellite pays 8% of revenues, Pandora paid 64% of revenue (6 mo. 2012)
- MusicFirst Coalition: Pandora wants to "gut the royalties that thousands of musicians rely upon."
- Peter Kafka at ATD points out testimonty from David Pakman FORMER digital music enterpreneur who avoids the market "the complications and conditions of the state of music licensing.”
Kafkas point sout, pay stiff on-demand, pay stiff web radio work with non-label musicians
"While our industry is used to failure, the failure rate of digital music companies is among the highest of any industry we have evaluated. This is solely due to the over-burdensome royalty requirements imposed upon digital music licensees by record companies under both voluntary and compulsory rate structures. The compulsory royalty rates imposed upon internet radio companies render them non-investible businesses from the perspective of many VCs."

Hey TNT crew,

Just wanted to comment about Google requiring Google+ accounts for leaving comments on apps in the Play Store. From a developer's side this is great news! Google implemented commenting on reviews not too long ago, but it was only for top developers. Many users only leave reviews when they are having issues and don't try to contact the developer through email or other means. With this new implementation developers can finally contact these people to try and resolve their issues.

Thanks and keep up the great work!
