Will There Ever Be a Surface Mini? Sounds Like It.
http://allthingsd.com/20130214/will-there-ever-be-a-surface-mini-sounds-like-it/?refcat=news

.

- MS CFO Peter Klein spoke at a Goldman Sachs conference
- Klein said that "We're getting closer and closer every day to write once and run anywhere."
- “We can have the same core code base driving form factors from four inches all the way up to 27-inch ones and everything in between,”
- Klein noted that it's not operating systems that matter in the end; it's more the common experiences -- apps and services like Xbox Live, Skype, SmartGlass -- that are what really matter to consumers.

Q: Write once, run anywhere - dream of just developers or is that also good for consumers? Would a unified mobile/desktop OS strategy work for Microsoft (as in, Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 merge)?

I was just listening to yesterday's show (episode 690), and I think you may have missed the hook in regards to the camera on Intel's TV set top box. Remember that they are working with the content providers extensively during the creation of this device / service, and that these partners are in fear of dwindling ad revenues threatening their business model.

I don't believe it is a far stretch to see this camera being used as a monitoring device. If the camera sees more people than the content provider wants to watch a single viewing of the content, then you might just see a prompt asking you to purchase a site viewing license due to the number of viewers exceeding the standard license.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I could see that being a reality in the not so distant future. Keep up the great show, you guys have become an integral part of my morning routine now!

Thanks so much!
