- The network would run on the 2.5GHz band
- it would be using wireless frequencies that are controlled by Clearwire Corp
- Steven Crowley, a wireless engineer, says “The only reason to use these frequencies is if you have business designs on some mobile service,” Crowley said.
- a source with knowledge of Google's plans, has told CNET that the testing is just that, and at this time, the search giant has no plans to deliver a consumer-facing service with the spectrum.

.

- Twitter CEO Dick Costolo posted a video tweet using the Vine app. Twitter bought Vine back in Oct 2011
- What did Costolo post? A looping 6-second video of steak tartare being prepared
- That was just a teaser as Twitter introduced Vine officially shortly thereafter
- The app is for iOS only right now (iPhone and iPod touch, no iPad specific app)
- The video autoplays without audio and appears w/in the body of the embedded tweet
- No twitter branding on the video
- After you make a Vine vid, you can choose to post on Vine, Twitter and/or FB

Q: A looping 6-second autoplaying mute video - is this the method to get people to make quick videos for the web?

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings thinks he can win the video subscription war

.

- Netflix now has 27.15M subscribers in the U.S.
- That's an increase of 2.05M customers in the U.S. (3rd Q: 25.1M)
- Net income $7.9M, analysts expected a loss
- Share prices jumped by more than 35% in after-hours trading
- Netflix added nearly two million new subscribers in other countries
- Asked whether the company’s reputation had fully recovered after its missteps in 2011, Mr. Hastings said, “We’re on probation at this point, but we’re not out of jail.”
- “we really want to make it easy to quit” Netflix. If the exit door is well marked, he asserted, subscribers will be more likely to come back.
- The question really is whether Netflix can keep adding subscribers while its content costs go up.

Q: Will its original programming like "House of Cards" and "Arrested Development" attract enough of a subscriber base for Netflix to keep growing? If not, what would?
“The virtuous cycle for us is to gain more subscribers, get more content, gain more subscribers, get more content,” Mr. Hastings said in an earnings conference call.

Hey TNT crew,

I just wanted to comment my thoughts on Intel ramping down their motherboard production. This honestly concerns me for the desktop tower industry. Intel was one of the higher-end manufactures of premium motherboards and this really is bad news for the desktop market, on top of everything else we keep hearing about the desktop market slowing down.

It seems that these manufactures keep trying to lower their cost in the mobile space, making laptops and ultrabooks even more affordable to the average user, while forgetting that they still make products for the high end power user. I’m not just referencing gamers. I work in an industry where we need a lot of high end 3D modeling and rendering machines, and you just can’t achieve that amount of power (for the price) of a laptop.

I hope we don’t see the desktop market completely die off in favor of these consumer friendly cheap alternatives. What are your thoughts?

Hey TNT Crew,

As an employee in the Marketing Dept. of a medium sized Home Improvement chain, I can honestly say coupons are some of the most anxiety causing promotional tools ever invented. Now obvious mistakes aside, like in the case of Best Buy, when creating the coupon you have to imagine every way a consumer is going to try and take full advantage of the restrictions (and unintentional loopholes) you put in place. It can make you turn bitter towards your customer base.

This stress is compounded when the higher-ups want to quickly enact a promotion and there just isn't time to properly proofread the small type, I imagine this is what happened at Best Buy.

The strange thing is that the legals at MC [MasterCard?] didn't catch anything, I deal with credit card companies a lot and they normally have eyes that eagles would be jealous of.

I just feel sorry for the poor person who put that coupon up on the website. I can't imagine he's having a very good week.
