slResearchers at the University of Erlangen in Germany have found a flaw in the automatically generated pre-shared keys used in Apple's iOS hotspots that could make them susceptible to attack in under a minute. Under iOS, users have the option to specify their own passwords to secure their device when it is used as a personal hotspot. But Apple initially populates the password field with an automatically generated password. However, according to three researchers from the German university, the method in which these passwords are generated leaves them vulnerable to attack. http://www.zdnet.com/researchers-able-to-predict-apple-ios-generated-hotspot-passwords-7000016937/

Google Filed motion with FISC claiming business has been harmed
- "Google seeks a declaratory judgment that Google has a right under the First Amendment to publish, and that no applicable law or regulation prohibits Google from publishing, two aggregate unclassified numbers: (1) the total number of [Foreign Surveillance Intelligence Act] requests it receives, if any; and (2) the total number of users or accounts encompassed within such reports,” the six-page filing states."
- “Lumping national security requests together with criminal requests — as some companies have been permitted to do — would be a backward step for our users.”
- Twitter legal counsel, Benjamin Lee, tweeting, “We agree with @Google: It’s important to be able to publish numbers of national security requests — including FISA disclosures — separately.”

slFeedly Cloud Goes Live To Replace Google Reader’s Backend, Power New Web Version Of Feedly’s Apphttp://techcrunch.com/2013/06/19/feedly-cloud-goes-live/

.

feedly standalone web versionfeedly.com

.

- 10 days till Google Reader is gone
- feedly transforming from RSS application to RSS platform (Normandy project to clone Reader API): Feedly Cloud now live, powering Feedly’s own apps and those from a small handful of approved developers.
- new, standalone web version of Feedly (one that doesn’t rely on a browser extension)
- partnerships with RSS app makers Reeder, Press, Nextgen Reader, Newsify and gReader earlier this month, using Feedly API.
- New partners partners IFTTT, Sprout Social, gNewsReader for BlackBerry 10 and Symbian/MeeGo, Press, Pure News Widget, and Meneré
- Feedly’s has apps for iOS, Android, Chrome, Safari and Firefox
-Feedly says it now reaches 12 million users, up from 4 million pre-Reader retirement. Millions of new users have come to the service, and more importantly, the company says that 68 percent of new users become weekly actives.
- blog post: we did not migrate from google reader is your history (too much data) so you have to expect that you are starting from a blank history and your unread counts will be reset. This is a one time issue.
Q: has feedly just solved rss? what about competitors?

- Then Huawei's VP for external affairs, Bill Plummer said that the company "has no plans to acquire Nokia."
- Nokia hasn't commented.
- BGR thinks no company will acquire Nokia right now saying that companies like Lenovo or Cisco don't want Nokia since it is a feature phone company.

Hey TNT crew. On yesterday's show it was mentioned once again that Kinect units were firing off on systems during the Xbox keynote. While this might be true, these activations are most likely due to operator error.

When Kinect is first setup, the Xbox goes through a calibration routine called Kinect Tuner. Part of the calibration has the Xbox broadcasting a variety of tones to determine the acoustic properties of the room.

This footprint is one of the ways that the Kinect isolates player voice from Xbox output. Microsoft recommends running the tuner whenever there is a major change in the room, like adding or rearranging furniture. The faulty recognition of the Xbox voice commands is most likely the result of Kinect units that are out of calibration.

Love the show.
