slThe European Union's antitrust chief says Google may need to offer more concessions to put to rest a three-year investigation into complaints that it purposely edged out rivals in Internet search. Google submitted proposals to the European Commission earlier this year, with concessions like labeling its own products in search results and making it easier for advertisers to move to other platforms. European competitors say Google's plan would force competitors to raise their costs and push merchants into further google dependency.http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/29/business/global/european-union-to-press-google-for-new-concessions.html?_r=0

slOpera releases new Chromium-powered desktop browser for Mac and Windowshttp://thenextweb.com/apps/2013/05/28/opera-previews-its-new-desktop-browser-for-mac-and-windows-made-from-scratch/

.

Opera landing page: http://www.opera.com/developer/next

.

- Opera Next 15, built from scratch, Mac & Windows versions - beta
- speed dial start page for favorites, arranged in a grid
- Stash is like your "read later" area
- new: Discover tab (also in Android Opera browser) - set country and manage story categories
- runs on open-source Chromium, uses Blink rendering engine
-supports the open SPDY(speedy) networking protocol and thus enables loading Web pages faster than ever.
- operamail for win/ac now separate app
- opera has smallest mkt share of top 5: IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari ahead. is Opera Next the answer? <-- Two notes to avoid some common mistakes I've seen in articles today. 1. Opera Next is the name of Opera's beta channel, NOT the name of the new browser. This is Opera Next 15. Speed Dial isn't new, that's been the name of the shortcuts page for awhile, but the foldering thing in Speed Dial IS new. - tm

2. Become software/services/component supplier (Microsoft, TI)
3. Disrupt market again (Apple)

Microsoft And Google Play For High Stakes over YouTube On Windows Phonehttp://www.forbes.com/sites/ewanspence/2013/05/25/microsoft-and-google-play-for-high-stakes-over-youtube-on-windows-phone/

41- MS and Google are at it again with a YouTube app for Windows Phone
- Some backstory: Google refuses to make a YouTube app for Windows Phone. Microsoft decided to make its own app
- MS's YouTube app gave the user the option to download videos and did not display in-app advertising
- Google demanded MS remove its app
- Now: The two companies say they will work together to bring a YT app to WP:
- The statement: "Microsoft and YouTube are working together to update the new YouTube for Windows Phone app to enable compliance with YouTube’s API terms of service, including enabling ads, in the coming weeks."
- The Verge reports that MS will have to use publicly available YouTube APIs, which mean its new app won't be as powerful as its last one.

Q: Apps vs. web - do mobile devices need a specialized app for YouTube? Did MS have to make its own app (just to get it pulled) to get Google's attention?

Hello all love the show been a long time listener you guys are with me everyday and keep me informed and looking like I know what I'm doing at my job.

On Friday you guys were talking about the concept of using the kinect to purchase movie tickets and how generally it didn't seem like a good idea and how it would game the system and how people would not pay $20 to watch a movie.

I'm wondering if anyone considered that using the technology we could have in-theater movies in our own home using the connect to validate as well as possible how many people are in there paying for the movie.

Like anything people will game the system in order to get more people in the room but people do that with real movie theaters too.

When you guys mentioned that story my first thought was I'll finally be able to get movies theater release dates in my home. I have 4 kids so I don't get to the theater very often.

Thank you for your show.

Hey TNT crew, about Google looking to buy Waze, when you look to buy a company, you get to get a good look at the books, assets, patents, plans, etc. Even if Google doesn't buy them, they'll have a good idea of what their competitor has purchased. With this information, they can determine whether there is a need to be defensive. Patents that Waze may have, is probably the biggest item that Google could be concerned about since like you noted, they already have most of the technology to do what Waze does.
