slThis 17-Year-Old Coder Is Saving Twitter From TV Spoilers (Spoiler: She's a Girl)http://www.motherjones.com/media/2013/05/meet-17-year-old-saving-you-game-thrones-twitter-spoilers

.

- Jennie Lamere, a 17-year-old girl, invented the software last month—and won the grand prize at the TVNext hackathon in boston where Lamere was the only female who presented a project, and the only developer to work alone.
- She came up with the idea for Twivo the night before the competition, and it took her 10 hours and 150 lines of code to complete. It works as an extension to the Google Chrome browser: A user can type in the key words she would like to block, and for how long, and make those Tweets disappear.
- Once a user is done blocking the show, the Tweets reappear. Lamere says the program is still in demo form and won't be ready for another two or three weeks, but she's already been approached by Furious Minds, a tech company that intends to help her market the final product.
- According to Girls Who Code, an organization that aims to provide computer science education and exposure to 1 million young women by 2020, women only represent 12 percent of computer science graduates, down from 37 percent in 1984.

Nook Media LLChttp://www.dailyfinance.com/2012/10/04/barnes-noble-and-microsoft-complete-strategic-part/?source=TheMotleyFool

.

- TechCrunch reports that MS is offering $1 billion to buy the digital assets of Nook Media LLC.
- The information was found in internal documents. NYT said the docs are real and are only several weeks old
- Nook Media LLC comprises the digital and College businesses of Barnes & Noble and included a $300M investment from MS giving it a 16.8% in the LLC
- In this plan, Microsoft would redeem preferred units in Nook Media, which also includes a college book division, leaving it with the digital operation — e-books, as well as Nook e-readers and tablets.
- The documents also say that Nook Media plans to discontinue its Android-based tablets by the end of 2014
- Content would transition to third-party partner devices through apps
- Nook e-readers are projected to have their own natural, gradual decline - but the e-readers don't have an end date
- The docs contain declining revenue projections for the Nook unit until fiscal year 2017

Q: Should the deal go through, it would give MS an ecosystem of digital content - does this seem like a good move for MS?
- Barnes & Noble officials say the Nook digital bookstore service contains about a 25 percent share of the total e-book market and 35 percent share of the digital magazine subscription market in the U.S.

I am also a power engineer for a power company, and I want to respond to Tom the Power Systems Engineer. Everything he said is true, but within the framework of "old school" power systems engineering. We are deploying battery-based energy storage devices that operate on bulk transmission systems that provide high-speed regulation services.

Conventional generating technologies take 10 minutes or more to go from zero generation to full power - we do it in 200 milliseconds. These systems will eventually relieve the large central generating stations from having to regulate the grid, and will have more than enough speed and capacity to regulate distributed generating systems at the grid level or the distribution level.

Jay the Power Systems Engineer
