slThe Google barge mystery is the gift that keeps on giving — when completed, it'll be an “unprecedented artistic structure,” sporting a dozen or so gigantic sails, to be moored for a month at a time at sites around the bay. Documents submitted to the Port of San Francisco show when it’s done, the barge will be a 50-foot-tall, 250-foot-long structure made of recycled shipping containers will be flanked by sails “reminiscent of fish fins, which will remind visitors that they are on a seaworthy vessel.”http://blog.sfgate.com/matierandross/2013/11/07/google-barge-revealed-artistic-structure-with-fish-fins/

iaAnother Tesla Model S went up in flames on Wednesday. It is the third fire in the past five weeks for Tesla. The company says the fire wasn't spontaneous and was the result of an accident after the car hit road debris. So far, all three fires were chalked up to accidents. Tesla's stock price is also taking a beating. On Wednesday, its stock dropped about 14% on news of weak earnings. Thursday, it dropped another 7%. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24862356

slThe SD Association has just unveiled an Ultra High Speed Class 3 (U3) card format that handles 4k video. The spec guarantees write performance of at least 30 MB/s, or enough bandwidth to record 4K clips without hiccups. iaGogo wireless, providers of in-flight WiFi, introduced a new technology that will allow smartphone users to make calls and send text messages as they normally would while in flight. Texts and calls are routed through the aircraft's wireless network in conjunction with Gogo's air-to-ground connection. For the user, your phone will remain in airplane mode because the phone won't be using a cellular connection. The calls are made possible using a Gogo app, which will be available for iOS and Android. Skype Demohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xhe6jV-APwM#t=360

.

- A lot of folks are getting hands on time with the Xbox One
- MS even published a 12-minute tour of the Xbox One
- ArsTechnica says that "Voice is the new controller" more so than the Xbox 360. Ars notes that voice controls are now a system-level process that runs in the background although they did find a slight pause in voice recognition of about 1/2 a second
- Recognizing you: the Xbox One can log in a user automatically based on their visuals. After a 30-second process to log in to your MS account, Kinect builds a profile of you based on your face and skeletal model of your body
- When you're recognized, the Xbox shows you your customized layout. If it recognizes someone else, that other person can say "Xbox, show my stuff"
- Data is stored in the cloud, so you can have your stuff show up on any Xbox One (PR Manager Jose Pinero said Personal biometric data, on the other hand, is never uploaded on the cloud.)
- Skype on the Kinect - as someone in a room moves around, the Kinect follows that person around using software
- Game DVR mode demoed - call out to Xbox to record, then you can edit right from the xbox. You can add a PIP with narration by recording from the Kinect
- Watching TV: Xbox One Guide. If you've got cable, you can ask to see what's on certain channels. If you're a cord cutter, you can add apps as channels like the NFL or Hulu.

slGogo unveils in-flight text, talk service at 30,000 feethttp://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57611490-93/gogo-unveils-in-flight-text-talk-service-at-30000-feet/

.

- Gogo has unveiled new service that allows phone calls & text message. Showed off Text & Talk technology to CNET aboard a private jet, departing from and returning to New Jersey's Newark International Airport.
- utilizing the company's air-to-ground connectivity, calls and texts back on Earth are now routed through the aircraft's wireless network rather than in-flight cell towers, or "picocells."
Users aboard commercial flights with Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi access can download a companion app (ios or android), which the company describes as an "extension" of the regular cellular network. This allows smartphone users to roam on the in-flight network as if they were connected to a land-based cell network.
- The company has more than 6,000 Gogo-equipped aircraft, from American Airlines, Delta, United, and Virgin America.

iaCable Vets Tout New Anti-Piracy Chip (Exclusive)http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/cable-vets-tout-new-anti-653727

.

- Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive about Beyond Broadband Technology
- BBT has been granted a patent they say would provide "a totally secure communications path." It would use a "downloadable conditional access system"

Here's how it works:
- A distributor or company sends the content or data to a consumer or company by wired line, the Internet or over the air.
- An inexpensive pre-programmed computer chip inside the device receives the download and provides the only authorization needed. The user wouldn't even have to input a password
- This system would not use a public/private key nor a trusted authority
- BBT doesn't manufacture the chips, but will provide an open system available to license
- BBT's proposed pricing for a cable box system would be about $5 per unit. Cable cards cost about $35

Q: This appears to be a hardware-based DRM-scheme. Do you think this could catch on?

slA Like Is Not Enough: Facebook Tests Star Ratings Displayed On Pageshttp://techcrunch.com/2013/11/07/facebook-pages-star-ratings/

.

Facebook Revamps Like, Share Web Buttonshttp://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2426846,00.asp

.

- Facebook testing displaying star ratings (like 1 out of 5), on Pages on the DESKTOP version, according to a TC source. Screenshots and live testing show that FB has turned on the star rating display for at least a small subsection of users
- FB has been collecting star ratings from users on the desktop and via local search already, and also seeking star ratings on content and apps via Timelinea. What is new is making this information explicitly displayed on the social network itself, in a prominent place on a business or place Page.
- as TC article points out - Comments provide some sense of sentiment around a Page, but the five-star system threads the needle between ease-of-use, information and digestibility, compared to both the Like and text comments. And as Facebook moves to become a platform geared towards providing public information, as well as real-time interactivity around media like TV, offering more granularity around how its users feel about people, places and things makes a lot of sense.
q: make sense?

This is Marlon "theGufromTrinidad", and for Iyaz to call Power Man/Luke Cage B listers is a travesty.

As you may know Joss Whedon has taken the inspiration for the Marvel Movies from the Ultimate Marvel Storyline, and while the Avengers are seen as the primer heroes, the characters to be featured in the upcoming series also play a key part of the background and in one storyline the Defenders take over the role of premier crime fighters when the avengers break up.

What is also key is that all the characters operate in Hell's kitchen, New York so there should be crossovers between the shows and this can be seen as the ground game for our fearless leader Joss Whedon's Phase 3 of his grand plan for the Marvel Universe.

We the comic book nerds of the internet are very excited.

:)
Love the show
