slHave a D-Link router? A serious vulnerability has been discovered that could affect you. A writer from embedded device hacking website /dev/ttyS0 found a backdoor to the router, along with full access to the router's web configuration interface. Anyone connected to the router through Ethernet or Wi-Fi, can set their browser's user agent string to a specific codeword and then try to access the web configuration panel. Only a certain selection of routers are known to be affected, all which use the DIR-100 firmware, but there's the possibility that firmware for other D-Link routers also includes backdoor code.http://www.techspot.com/news/54319-d-link-router-backdoor-vulnerability-allows-full-access-to-settings.html

slFOURSQUARE OPENS AD PLATFORM TO 1.5 MILLION MERCHANTShttp://www.fastcompany.com/3019923/foursquare-opens-ad-platform-to-15-million-merchants

.

- Foursquare opening its advertising platform to small businesses.
- FS has morphed into a search and discovery platform - ads help lure customers to venues.
- testing its ad product for months with select partners, now 1.5M merchants all have access to the service--a move that could generate substantial revenues for the company.
- Small businesses can create ads using Foursquare tools. target relevant customers; set a monthly budget for ad spend; and track ad performance.
- . EXAMPLE: Foursquare user opens the service during lunchtime, could see a promoted suggestion for that nearby burger spot on the app--an ad that might attract attention because the restaurant is offering a special ("spend $20 and get $5 off!") or highlighting popular user tips. ("The blue cheese burger is delicious!").
- Success will be calculated on a per-action basis: how many clicks it drove, how many check-ins it delivered. Merchants will be able to tell not only how many potential customers viewed their ads, but also how many actually set foot in their doors because of them--provided users check in or redeem a special there
q: better data than traditional advertising... but are merchants confident in FS to drive sales?

slSonos releases new $200 speaker, CEO dismisses Spotify’s Connect speaker partnershipshttp://gigaom.com/2013/10/14/sonos-releases-new-200-speaker-ceo-dismisses-spotifys-connect-speaker-partnerships/

.

- Connected speakers maker Sonos has released its first $200 speaker, Play1
- wireless, but needs plug-in power, so it's not bluetooth picnic/outdoor solution. this is for an extra sonos in the kitchen, or people who already have the Sonos soundbar to pick up two of these for surround sound.
- price can finally compete w bluetooth speakers but sonos is not as limited. Bose announced its own connected speaker system called Soundtouch last week, but priced it above even the more expensive Sonos products. sonos CEO John MacFarlane says that Bose could be the next Nokia, or RIM
- not interested in spotify partnership: why tie speaker systems to the brand of a single music service, likened it to Best Buy having separate aisles for Pandora speakers and Spotify speakers.
next: apps can let users beam music directly to Sonos speakers. no need for sonos app. Instead, they will be able to simply press a “play on Sonos” button within the app of their favorite service, and launch music playback on their Sonos system. like Chromecast, but for your music.
q: is Play:1 the right product for niche market? do enough ppl care about audio qualities at lower prices?
