slTwitter's got a new TV ad targeting platform — that features actual users tweeting things they didn’t tweet. On Twitter’s advertising blog, the company posted a screenshot of users Subhash Chander, William Mazeo, and Neil Gottlieb singing the praises of an imaginary ad for something called Barista Bar. The bogus tweets have since been removed, replaced with tweets from TwitterAds employees, but SF Gate reports that the original post had already been tweeted by the official @twitterads account, retweeted to some 1.5 million users’ timelines.http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/24/4551684/twitter-uses-real-users-fake-tweets-to-promote-ad-platform

iaFacebook to Let You Say Why You Hide News Feed Posts
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/facebook-hide-customize-posts-ads-show-news-feed/story?id=19751550

.

- ABC News reports that Facebook will start allowing users to explain why they hide certain things in a news feed.
- Currently, if you don't like someone's post in your News Feed, you can simply click hide.
- FB's Product Manager for Ads Fidji Simo says that users will have the ability to tell FB why they like or dislike certain things in their feed.
- She said if a post is marked as offensive by many, that might serve as a signal to Facebook to not show that message to other users
- Something marked as "uninteresting" may not cause a similar signal for the greater FB.
- FB didn't give much as to how you'll be reporting content, but said to expect to see new menus and options soon with tweaks to follow.
- The new function will be rolled out for all types of feed posts, including ads and sponsored stories

Q: Do you foresee people taking advantage of this new reporting function? Would it lead to a better FB experience?

sl3D printing at home could have health risks, says studyhttp://www.theverge.com/2013/7/24/4552132/home-3d-printers-potential-health-risks

.

- industrial 3D printers often use ventilation shafts and filters to evacuate airborne particles and eliminate emissions that are unhealthy to humans
- new study from researchers at the Illinois Institute of Technology that use in unventilated areas could potentially lead to health issues.
- five models of 3D printers at Chicago's 3D Printer Experience were used, UP Mini printer and MakerBot Replicator printer two examples. models using both ABS and PLA polymers as a plastic feedstock were classed as "high emitters" of ultrafine particles (UFPs), reporting similar emission rates (output, not toxicity) to the operation of a laser printer or the burning of a cigarette.
- Because of their size, UFPs can be deposited in the lungs and absorbed directly into the bloodstream. High concentrations of UFPs have been linked to lung cancer, strokes, and the development of asthma symptoms.
- takeaway- users should be cautious when operating 3D printers in "unvented or inadequately filtered indoor environments."
q: do we need warning labels of commercial printers and material?

Can the internet raise $32 million to build the Ubuntu Edge smartphone?
http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/22/4545256/canonical-ubuntu-edge-crowdfunding-launch-pictures

.

Ubuntu Edgehttp://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge

.

:07- There's an update to the Ubuntu Edge crowdfunding campaign
- Canononical is now offering the Ubuntu Edge phone to backers who pledge $625, $675 and $725 with each limited to 1250 pledges
- If you're unfamiliar with the campaign, Canonical is asking for $32M to build a phone
- The device is called the "Ubuntu Edge" and would be a 4.5-inch 720p smartphone with a multi-core processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.
- Canonical says the device can be your main PC when docked and it will run both Linux and Android
- When the campaign launched you'd either have to pay $600 or $830 to get the device in May 2014
- The company says that those who contributed $830 will be refunded the difference.

Q: So far, Canonical has raised over $4M. Do you think that the lower pledge points will lead to the project funding its crazy goal?

Hi tntcrew,

Love the Show blabla...

Regarding the 25% of overall traffic being Youtube Videos:

There is a simple explanation: higher resolution.

The avarge Youtube Video's Resolution and therefore the amount of Data increased, while regular Websites did not. So even of the number of watched Videos stayed the same, Traffic would go up.
