tmEngadget passes along that Calcalist reports Apple is in early talks to buy PrimeSense. Recognise the name? They're the company that made the original hardware and chip used in the first generation Microsoft Kinect. They also make the tech in some lesser known 3D sensing products like Asus' WAVI Xtion and EyePlay by EyeClick.A source from PrimeSense poured cold water on the idea, telling TechCrunch it was a delusion based on unverified and twisted hints." The source also scoffed at the $280 million valuation mentioned by Calcalist saying PrimeSense is worth 10 times that.http://www.engadget.com/2013/07/16/apple-primesense-acquisition-rumor/

slAT&T will start offering its flexible “Next” plans for smartphones and tablets, on a post-paid basis on July 26th. Customers can trade in their smart devices every 12 months, provided the customer pays a monthly installment fee based on a 20-month cycle. So for example, you would take the full retail price of an iPad, divide it by 20 and add that cost to your monthly AT&T plan. After 12 months, you can trade in that iPad for a new device, and your cycle starts over.http://allthingsd.com/20130715/atts-next-upgrade-plan-a-new-smartphone-every-12-months-at-a-20-month-fee-rate/

Stay tuned, gumshoes. http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/15/4526168/new-apple-tv-service-would-reportedly-include-ad-skipping-technology

- 9to5Mac points to Israeli publication Calcalist - says PrimeSense, maker of Microsoft Kinect’s original tech, in talks w Apple, might get bought for $280-300M.
- history w Israeli co's: Apple purchased Israeli Flash chip optimization company Anobit in late 2011 for $400M+. compnay now part of apple's r&d
- Apple may have already been licensing IP from PrimeSense and/or its competitors. Apple may want to own this IP and technologyand keep from others
- source at PrimeSense denies acquisition to TC: “Journalist delusion based on unverified and twisted hints,” the source added, also questioning the valuation: “280M? Come on! We’re worth 10 times that."
- reports that Intel has acquired Omek Interactive, a company it had already invested in that makes technology for gesture-based interfaces.
- Intel may want the tech as part of its bigger moves into 3D visualization and “perceptual computing”, its catch-all term for gesture, touch, voice, and other AI-style sensory technologies, which is also the subject of a $100 million investment fund Intel launched in April.
- OR: Intel wants Omek for technology that it can embed into chips. The more functionality it can add that will drive new purchases of those chips by device makers, the better:

Exclusive: Apple Pitches Ad-Skipping for New TV Service
http://jessicalessin.com/2013/07/15/exclusive-apple-pitches-ad-skipping-for-new-tv-service/BLEEP towards end (shit)

.

- Former WSJ reporter Jessica Lessin reports that Apple's next TV service will include ad-skipping technology
- Lessin says that Apple has been talking with networks and cable companies for over a year, but now talks have gotten more serious
- A premium version of Apple's TV service would see customers paying Apple. Apple would then pay networks for lost revenue
- This is a similar set up to iTunes Radio (users pay for iTunes Match, Apple pays record companies)

Q: Will this set up appease the content companies to bring TV to Apple? Is this the TV service that will stand out in the field?

- Yahoo sent messages to dormant accounts (12 months) to confirm inactiveness. non-responders have had their usernames thrown into a pool of avail handles.
- top five picks for desired username at wishlist.yahoo.com.
- Yahoo’s official tumblr says users will receive an email sometime in “mid-August” letting them know notifying them if they were the first in line to claim an available username along with a link to claim it within 48 hours.
- tom's top five?
from yahoo dev site: If a Facebook user with a Yahoo! email account submits a request to reset their password, Facebook would add the Require-Recipient-Valid-Since header to the reset email, and the new header would signal to Yahoo! to check the age of the account before delivering the mail. Facebook users typically confirm their email when they sign up for the service or add new emails to their account, and if the “last confirmed” date that Facebook specifies in the Require-Recipient-Valid-Since header is before the date of the new Yahoo! username ownership, then the email will not be delivered and will instead bounce back to Facebook, who will then contact the user by other means.

Recently, you spoke about radiohead removing their music from streaming services.

And Sarah stated that she 'loved' these services.

But here is the question (and likely the answer), when is the last time she purchased any music?

I think there-in lies the problem, music discovery is great but if you never buy anything, it doesnt make the artist all that much.

One might argue the same for the video industry, places like Blockbuster paid enormously large amounts on a 'per copy' basis, such that it paid for itself. For example, if it was around $200 per copy of a movie, and a local Blockbuster picked up 20 copies, it would cost $2,000.
