TMR FSC welcomes new members Nikolaj Sørensen & Laurence Fournier-Beaudry!
It gives us great pleasure to announce that our world-class coaches Nikolaj Sørensen & Laurence Fournier-Beaudry are now full members of the TMR FSC in 2018-19 and will be skating for Canada this year.
Nik and Laurence are 5-time Danish national dance champions but were unable to compete for Denmark at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, which would have been a first for Denmark. Danish regulations regarding mixed-nationalities (Laurence is Canadian) did not allow them to compete despite their demonstrated ability and tremendous support (see petition) from the skating community.
This setback did not stop them from reaching for their dream. Nik has just obtained his Permanent Residency status in Canada, and the pair will be skating for Canada. Their goal is to skate at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, and they asked to skate on behalf of the Town of Mount Royal Figure Skating Club!
It's truly a great honour to have such talented and wonderful people teaching our skaters and representing our club on the international stage. Our 450+ members (and families) and our coaches will be cheering for them at every event!
GO Nik & Lau GO!
