Submission of this entry form with two 12 oz. to 25.4 oz. (750 ml) bottles of unlabeled beer expresses intent to compete in the 2016 Homebrew Contest of the DC State Fair. The bottles may be corked and caged or swing top, but you will not receive the bottles back. All brewers entering the contest must be a resident of the District of Columbia to be eligible to compete in this homebrew competition. Professionally brewed beers are ineligible. Contestants may enter one home-brewed beer in any of five categories, up to a maximum of three contest entries. Additional points may be awarded for beers that include homegrown ingredients.
The five home-brew categories are:
* Roast, Smoke, and Wood
* Fruit and Spice
The first-place (Blue Ribbon) winners in each of five categories win the option to have a barrel of their prize-winning recipe brewed and sold at The Public Option in the year between the 2016 and 2017 DC State Fair events. Brewing and release dates for each of the five winning recipes will be scheduled in collaboration with the owner/manager of The Public Option after the Fair.
Registered contestants can drop off their two bottles at The Public Option (1601 Rhode Island Avenue NE) on Saturday, August 20 between 12:00 and 10:00 p.m. or on Sunday, August 21, between 12:00 and 8:00 p.m. Preliminary judging will be held at The Public Option on Wednesday, August 24, at 6:00 p.m. Contestants are welcome to attend the preliminary judging.
The fair is on Sunday, August 28, at NoMa Junction at Storey Park (1005 1st Street NE). The final round of judging will take place the day of the Fair and winners will be announced from the Fair's mainstage.
There is a three (3) entry limit per person and the winners do not need to be in attendance.
***Please be sure to include a piece of paper identifying your beers with your name and the name of the entry; the paper must be secured with a rubberband, any entries with glue will be disqualified.***
Prizes will be donated by local businesses and breweries. There will be a winner for each of the 5 categories, as well as an overall "Best of Show" winner. Please note this is not a BJCP competition. For any questions, please email Jenn Nichols at email@example.com
