GUEST SPEAKER: Michael Axelrod, Curator of the Life Sciences Greenhouse. Mike holds a MA/LS from Stony Brook University in Science Education, a B.S. in Floriculture and Ornamental Horticulture from Cornell University and an A.A.S. in Ornamental Horticulture from SUNY Farmingdale. He previously worked at New York Botanical Garden, NYC Parks and Recreation and Cornell University. DESCRIPTION: Join Mike for a tour of Stony Brook University’s plant collections.  Discover the world of plants and delve into topics such as: Plant Evolution and Adaptation; plants as a model for research and teaching; plants and agriculture/food; and plants in pharmacology, ethnobotany (scientific study of the relationships that exist between people and plants), and ornamental importance.  Mike’s vast knowledge and enthusiasm about his work will inspire you to ask questions and learn ways to nurture a green thumb.   Note:  Tours limited to 15 participants. Meet in the lobby of the Life Sciences Building.
