Vol. 246 News Staff Writer Application
Please fill out the form below if you'd like to be considered to write for the news section for Volume 246 at The Stanford Daily. Answer questions as comprehensively as possible, but please do not write more than you feel is valuable. This application will close Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 11:59 p.m. You may edit your application until then.

Each new writer will be assigned to a news Desk, led by a Desk Editor, and work on that Desk with Deputy Desk Editors. Writers will be responsible for attending one Desk meeting each week and occasional all-News meetings. There will also be mandatory training sessions for new writers either on weeknights or weekend afternoons, depending on everybody's availability.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at alicep1@stanford.edu (for Alice) or czaw13@stanford.edu (for Catherine).

We look forward to reading your application!

Where do you live on campus? (e.g. Alondra, room 314) *
Why are you interested in writing for The Daily? *
Do you have any journalism/publication experience? If so, tell us about it. If not, tell us about something else -- maybe an extracurricular you're proud of or an obscure academic interest. *
We absolutely DO NOT expect/require/favor journalism experience (that's what training is for). We just want to know a bit more about your background. In fact, we've had several Editors in Chief who joined The Daily freshman year with no experience.
What article would you write for The Daily? *
Is there something on campus that bothers you? Do you want to know why something is the way it is? Propose an article idea to us, including a couple of potential sources you could interview.
Please either link to a piece of written work in the box below or email a writing submission in the following format. Recipients: alicep1@stanford.edu and czaw13@stanford.edu; Subject line: DailyNewsApp_[LastnameFirstname]; Attachment format: PDF *
A writing submission can be anything you have written in prose. Don't worry, your interpretation of Toni Morrison's sentence structure or the economic rationale for detente isn't what's relevant here -- we care about how you write.
What kind of food do you like to eat at group meetings?
(Remember, we're on a budget.)
Do you want the opportunity to edit this response again before the deadline? If so, please check "Send me a copy of my responses" just above the SUBMIT button. *
If you don't do that, you will have quite a bit of difficulty re-accessing your responses to edit them.
