"The Reckoning" Screening Kit Request Form

Dear Colleague, We are pleased to offer Screening Kits of "The Reckoning: The Battle for the International Criminal Court", a documentary film produced by Skylight Pictures (www.skylightpictures.com). In preparation for the first Review Conference of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, being held in Kampala in May/June 2010. Skylight Pictures and Pivot Pictures (a media initiative of the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ - www.ictj.org) are teaming up to distribute the Screening Kits of the film and related educational materials to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) around the world. "The Reckoning" synopsis: At the close of the 20th century, in response to repeated mass atrocities around the world, more than 120 countries, including 30 African nations, united to form the International Criminal Court (ICC)—the first permanent court created solely to prosecute perpetrators (no matter how powerful) of crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide. "The Reckoning" tells the story of the establishment of the ICC and follows the development of the Court in its first six years of operation. It deals with the controversies and challenges presented by the Court’s ongoing cases, providing rare insight into the world of international justice. The film informs and educates the viewer in a compelling manner, and it is a very effective way to open informed discussions about the ICC. We hear from victims, civil society members, government officials, and perpetrators as the dramatic narrative unfolds. Since its release in January 2009, "The Reckoning" is proving to be an essential tool for educating the public about the role that the ICC plays in the battle against impunity, and in the quest to build peaceful and secure societies governed by the rule of law. "The Reckoning" will be offered in multiple language versions including: English, French, Luo, Arabic, Swahili (English), Swahili (French), Portuguese, and Spanish. Educational materials – such as a film discussion guide and 10-15 minute video modules on critical international justice themes (also available in multiple languages) – will also be available for your organization’s use. These thematic modules will be produced by Skylight Pictures and will focus on themes such as "The ICC and Africa" and "Peace and Justice". All of these materials will be available to your organization free-of-charge. We just ask that, in exchange, your organization complete a brief request form to let us know how it can make use of this Screening Kit. Additionally, following the screening event, we will ask each organization to fill out a simple Post-Screening Evaluation Survey, in order to increase our understanding of how the film is used and what impact it may have had on opinions about the ICC. If you would like to receive a Screening Kit for "The Reckoning" free-of-charge, please respond to the questionnaire below.
