California Naturalist is a program developed by the University of California Cooperative Extension to foster a committed group of volunteer naturalists and citizen scientists trained and ready to take an active role in natural resource conservation, education, outreach and restoration. The UC California Naturalist curriculum is rated as a junior college level introductory science course.

This registration form must be completed, and payment received, in order to secure your spot in the course. In order to attend the first class these additional documents must be received: Emergency Contact, Photo Release, and Liability Release forms.  No exceptions. To become a Certified California Naturalist, participants are expected to attend all Wednesday evening classes. Only one evening class session can be missed and the participant will be expected to complete make‐up activities at the direction of the instructor. One field trip can be missed without make‐up work. Please contact the instructor if you plan to miss a class or a field trip.

Participant Requirements *
Class participants are required to complete a final project either individually, with a partner, or in a group. Additional requirements include maintaining a Field Notebook for recording observations, submitting iNaturalist observations during the training, and completing all reading assignments from the CA Naturalist Handbook.

Computer Access *
Communication to members of the class will be via e-mail; documents will be sent electronically. Computer availability is essential. Following training, California Naturalists use the web-based Volunteer Management System for recording hours and to access opportunities, activities, and teaching materials.

Tuition: Early-bird registration $395 if received by February 1, 2017. $450 thereafter. Please see the beginning of the form for instructions regarding payment.
