Spring 2014 Activist Training Application

The Sierra Club Global Population and Environment Program works to protect the environment and preserve natural resources for future generations by advancing global reproductive health and sustainable development initiatives.

Our Spring 2014 Activist Training offers participants the opportunity to gain information and skills to effectively link climate change, reproductive health and rights, sustainable development, population and the environment as leaders and activists on campuses, in communities, and with Sierra Club activists from around the US.

WHEN: February 8-9, 2014

WHERE: Sierra Club Legislative Office, 50 F St NW, 8th Floor, Washington, DC 20001

Participants will learn about issues of local and global significance from experts and advocates in the field, tying poverty, gender equity, resource use, water scarcity, and a variety of other issues to population, health access, and the environment. Activists of all ages are encouraged to apply, though youth attendees (under 25) will become Spring Program Fellows, and will receive an extra stipend to implement their own campaigns to advance population, reproductive health, and environmental issues on their campuses.

Training participants will receive technical support, guidance, materials and information from the Global Population and Environment Program, in turn committing to perform at least 3 activities (anything from a blog post to hosting a community event) in the 6 months following the Activist Training.

Participants will receive training in leadership and advocacy skills, including:
+ Tips and tools for grassroots organizing on campus and in communities
+ Tactics on how to influence key policy makers, officials, and other stake holders
+ Communication strategies, messaging tools, and media outreach training

Hotel and food expenses will be covered in full. The Global Population and Environment Program will also cover travel expenses upon request - please see below.
