When getting into the backcountry, safety is of the utmost importance! Have you always wanted to take an avalanche safety course but the cost scared you away? No fear! SheJumps is offering full scholarships ($140 value) to the upcoming Women's Backcountry 101!
The Utah Avalanche Center has teamed up with SheJumps to bring you this women's only course. On Thursday night (1/30), a forecaster will use videos, slides, stories and class exercises to explain avalanche characteristics, snowpack fundamentals, clues to instability, terrain assessment, safe travel techniques, rescue techniques and decision-making. For the field day (2/1), we will be dividing up into groups by experience, ability and interest, with a ratio of 6 students with one instructor. This course is designed accommodate both women who are beginners and those who have taken a class or spend a decent amount of time in the backcountry and would like to brush up on their skills.
This application will be considered for a full $140 scholarship to the program. Due to the high volume of applicants that we anticipate, scholarship recipients will be selected at random from the complete and appropriate applications. The application deadline is January 23rd in order to allow time for review and notification. You can read more about the program here:
