Objectives:As a result of this workshop, teachers will...• Be able to articulate the differences between word study and phonics• Identify realistic expectations for students to transfer word study into accurate spelling• Build strategies for addressing holes that have been found in Words Their Way• Be able to implement strategies for managing data• Be able to make instructional decisions based upon data collected
This training will be offered two times, once this June and again in August, as long as we have enough participants. Participants will be asked to bring their Words Their Way books to the training. All other materials and lunch will be provided.

She was trained in the use of Words Their Way while working as a classroom teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) in Virginia. She also trained other teachers in FCPS specifically in the implementation of Words Their Way. While in Fort Collins, Colorado, Melanie worked as the district literacy coordinator across 50 schools. She earned her M.Ed. at Johns Hopkins University and is currently a Literacy Studies Ph.D. student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
