RSVP The Fabric of Cultures: Objects, Memory, Technology, May 4 2017
The Queens College Center for Teaching & Learning presents:
The Fabric of Cultures: Objects, Memory, Technology
A Research and Pedagogy Project

Date: Thursday, May 4, 2017
Time: 10am – 6pm
Location: President’s Conference Room #2, Benjamin S. Rosenthal Library Fifth Floor

The Conference is one of several steps in a research and pedagogical project, in part digital– –that explores in theory and practice how fibers, fabrics, and clothing, as well as texts, tell the stories of people and communities across cultures, class, gender and space. The Conference’s presentations will investigate the power of the materiality of texts and fabrics to ground, through use, care and making, memories, aesthetics, political awareness and activism, even for the most ubiquitous of garments such as white t-shirts and jeans. These and other objects connect people, sewing the visible and invisible stitches of a community that is an incubator for innovation in the arts, craft and technology.

Keynote Speakers:
• Anne Rosalind Jones
• Esther Cloudman Dunn Professor of Comparative Literature
• Walker H. and Leonore C. Annenberg in the Humanities; Professor of English, Comparative Literature, and Literary Theory
