Intro to Songwriting

For beginning songwriters ages of all ages . A two, 60 min class workshop
that will focus on the elements of a song and help jumpstart the
creative process. As a class, we’ll study some examples and then
create our own song together. The second session will consist of
evaluating and working on assigned songs (or parts of songs) from the
first day.


Limited number of private one on one follow up lessons available on
Thursday 6/7 by appointment for $50/hour.

Songwriting Workshop

A two, 180 min class workshop that will focus on
songwriting using your finished songs or works in progress! As a group
we will use these songs and song parts to incorporate discussions on
melody, lyric, harmonization, song form, music theory concepts and
more plus tricks to work through creative blocks. The second session
will consist of evaluating and working on assigned changes using
concepts from the first day. Participants should come with some ideas
ready to discuss - whether it’s a whole song or just a title or a
chord progression or even a concept! - and be open to sharing their
work.

About Scott Simons

A native of Bridgeport, WV now living in Los Angeles, Scott Simons' is
a graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in music
composition.

He was the lead singer of the Morgantown-based pop band The Argument
which performed on public radio's "Mountain Stage" twice and was named
as one of the "Top Ten Unsigned Bands in America" by the American
Music Awards. In 2006, his self-produced cover of Rhianna's "Umbrella"
was added to many radio station rotations all over the US and
overseas, received praise on countless internet pop culture sites such
as TMZ.com and amassed millions of plays on social media.


In 2008, Scott made the move west to LA and has been keeping busy as a
writer, performer and recording artist ever since. As a songwriter and
producer, Simons has worked with many writers and artists all over the
world. His collaboration with Italian pop DJ group Daddy's Groove
"Stellar" hit #1 on the Italian Dance Music charts. Scott also
co-wrote "Another Break Up Song" with soul singer songwriter Allen
Stone. Other notable song placements include: dance music legends
Dirty Vegas, Drake Bell (Nickelodeon's "Drake & Josh), Brandon and
Leah ("Keeping Up With The Kardashians" ), Holland Idol winner Lisa
Lois and broadway actress Shoshana Bean from the musical "Wicked".


Simons is currently working on his 6th season on the music team of
America’s Got Talent as the show’s pianist and assistant music
director. He also served as the music director for the current season
of NBC’s Little Big Shots and worked all 3 seasons on the music team
for the American version of X Factor. Scott has also appeared on The
Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Anderson Cooper Live and Ellen.
And of course, you can hear his voice on constant repeat on
Nickelodeon as the singer of the theme song for “Paw Patrol”.
