Women of central Illinois: Are you hitting the glass ceiling?

U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics from 2010 show women earned 19 percent less than their male counterparts nationally. Locally the numbers are worse — women working in Illinois’ 18th congressional district earn 29 percent less than their male coworkers, according to a 2013 study by the American Association of University Women. Experts cite a number of reasons for the disparity, from the career choices women make to gender biases in society.
