Question 2: the rafters are adequate at the birdsmouth cut and can be connected only at the bottom. However, there should be blocking between them (as there is at the upper rafters) so they don't roll.

We float the panels above the roof, attaching on "feet" that are flashed into the roof by the roofer (to maintain sole source responsibility for leak-free roofs). It seems like these need to be made of a material capable of lasting the life of the roof--thus we use aluminum. Everything above the feet,could be seen as expendable or replaceable so treated lumber and brackets should work. A lesson learned, put wire screen around the panel between the panel and the roof to prevent birds nests! Gene

Question 1. Bond beam for floors 1 and 2.
In order to get the most structural strength the bond beam must surround the exterior as a single structural element. Think of it as a strap surrounding a suitcase. When it is connected any stresses on a side or corner are offset by strength from the opposing side or corner. The top should also be surrounded. If the support for the roof truss is integrated into the bond beam it will strengthen the center of the first floor roof as well as tie in the second floor.

Q1. I don't think the bond beam needs to go around. However, why not? It will connect to the window lintels. If there is an aesthetic reason not to, then I might suggest continuing the two columns (on either side) down to the lower level. Q2. About the cripple studs... not sure. I don't think they are necessary. It seems to me that any transfer of load can be handled by the joists themselves... but I'm not sure. I'm interested to hear what others think. Q3. If in a wet/cold climate, tar paper up to 36 inches horizontal distance from the fascia (to act as dam proofing), then flashing, then tar paper over the whole roof (in overlaps from the bottom up), then finish roofing. If not in cold climate or if in sealed roof, the first part (dam proofing) may not be necessary.

If hangars are avoided then a birds mouth is superior to the shear strength of a fastener. Q#3 Drip edge, tar paper, metal roofing, then other assorted trim flashings. There are mistakes that can be easy to make. I would recommend an experienced roofer to advise / assist with the installation. Depending on your location I would love to assist.
