Y.E.S. Mentor Application
This is the application to become a mentor with one•n•ten's Youth Education Success (Y.E.S.) program. Our Youth Education & Success (Y.E.S.) program teaches youth basic workforce development skills by providing workshops regarding resume building, interview skills, time management, etc. These workshops will not start until June 2017.

We deeply believe in youth agency, so instead of staff members pairing mentors with youth, we let the youth choose their mentors through a blind application process. Please keep this in mind when filling out this mentor application - youth will be reading it, so write your application with them in mind. If you are not paired with a youth right away, we will email you with further opportunities to support with coordinating the Y.E.S. workshops.

MENTOR EXPECTATIONS:
All mentors must be over the age of 24 (25 years+). All mentors must undergo a criminal background check or hold a fingerprint clearance card. Mentors must apply to be a general volunteer before submitting this mentor application. To apply to become a volunteer, please visit bit.ly/onentenvolunteer.

We are in the process of restructuring our mentor program - by signing up to be a mentor, you are expected to be able to commit to meeting weekly with a youth. Meetings must be held in a public, lighted place (i.e. coffee shops, public libraries, parks, cafe's, etc). Mentors will be asked to fill out a short mentor log, documenting the times and focuses of their mentor/mentee meetings.

These early days of mentoring will focus much more on building an authentic relationship with a youth. You will receive additional guidance and training from staff and other volunteer mentors throughout your mentoring experience. We ask our mentors for a one year commitment, staying in contact with and supportive of their paired youth as the relationship permits.

One of our goals in creating this mentoring program is to ensure that mentees and mentors are able to bring all of their ‘social identities’ to the mentoring relationship. Some youth may wish to have a mentor with similar racial, ethnic, language, orientation and gender background.
