A minimum of 8 students are needed to fill a class and if not met, could be cancelled. -Please provide a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice if your child has one and wishes to participate in another class. Intermediate Band- Mr. Topham grade 6: This session will provide students in the instrumental ensemble with the substantial, quality opportunity to practice many of the skills and techniques discussed in band class, as well as a great chance to socialize with other students in the instrumental music program. this will allow intermediate students extra practice time
Baking Club- Mrs. Morrissey Grades 5-8: Come bake delicious treats in Granite Valley’s Baking Club! This club will feature easy to make recipes each week and will give students a hands-on learning experience in the art of baking. We will learn how to read recipes, measure different ingredients, and change recipes so that they make the right amount of servings for our needs. Grab your friends and join! MATERIAL FEE: $10
Anime Art- Emma Norval Grades 6-8: Learn how to draw anime! You'll learn valuable art skills while developing your own style. There will be an emphasis on character creation and design as well. This class is open to beginners and intermediates alike! MATERIAL FEE: $15
Advanced Band-Grades 7&8 Mr. Topham: This class will give 7th and 8th graders a chance to rehearse and work together. By working across grade levels, students will gain confidence and a sense of camaraderie with their fellow musicians, thus boosting and encouraging a sense of enthusiasm and commitment to a continually rigorous pursuit toward developing more advance techniques and quality musicianship. These acquired skills and traits will all contribute to rapid growth and success for each individual musician, as well as for the GVMS music program.
Cross Country Trail Running-Grades 5 &6 Laura VIllamaino: Join Miss Laura for an after noon of running and exploring the cross country trails behind GVMS. Please bring a bottle of water and sneakers.
Relax and Color- Grades 5-8 Ms. Silwa De-stress and color. Intricate colorings available as well as beginner pieces. $10 MATERIAL FEE
The Art of the Rubiks Cube- Grades 5-8 with Mrs. Boucher. Do you like to solve puzzles? Did you know that math and art are combined within the Cube? Join me in the quest to unlock the mysteries behind the Rubik's Cube as we explore the math and art behind this "toy" that has puzzled so many children and adults. This 4 Module program will include solving the cube, competitions, mosaic builder, and DIY mosaics. Each participant will receive a Rubik's Cube along with a solution guide. $10 MATERIAL FEE
Sew Cool Club- Grades 5-8 with Andrea Newland: Learn the basics of sewing in this class and make several projects with hand stitching such as stuffed animals and more. $10 MATERIAL FEE **PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO CLASS ON WEDNESDAY MAY 10.
Beginner Band-Grade 5 with Mr. Topham : Join Mr. Topham and 4th graders from Quarry Hill These lessons will provide students with the substantial, quality opportunity to get a head start and practice many of the fundamental skills and techniques that will be discussed and executed in Band class, as well as a great chance to socialize with other students in the instrumental music program. Please watch for further information coming home from Mr. Topham on how to pick an instrument and to gain access to it.
Watercolor Workshop- Grades 5-8 with Mrs. Novak: Join us to experiment and learn traditional and new techniques of watercolor! This program is open to grades 5-8. No previous experience is required to take this class.Learn color mixing, washes, using frisket (masking fluid),brush and water control,how to apply watercolor, and value ranges. Student watercolors are provided. If you wish to bring your own set of tube watercolors for greater color intensity, you can purchase a set at Michael's or Hobby Lobby for apprx. $10.
Rugby-Grades 5-8 with Mr. Hogan: Students will learn the basics (without contact)of one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Teamwork, sportsmanship, determination and grit are all emphasized in this Olympic sport.
Stage Makeup and Costumes- Grades 5-8 with Faith Ward: Students will learn how to build characters from scratch. Learning makeup techniques, such as creating scars and costume building, students will create a new character each week. Students will also create a binder of picture references for the character makeups they wish to create.$20 MATERIAL FEE
Altered Experimental Art- Grades 5-8 with Faith Ward: Students will work in a variety of mediums utilizing Mixed-Media, Photo Emulsion, Storybook & Poetry Picture Art, to alter family photographs, found images and objects. No experience necessary, only a willingness to try new things and make cool art! Students will create many mini projects to learn techniques and one major project for the last class, which will be an art show for family and friends. $20 MATERIAL FEE
Novelty Seeking Club-Open to grades 5-8 Join Jonathan Carbonneau. This program is intended for students who want to both try new things and share their favorite interests. As a group we will share our interests and each week explore a new activity so that we can all try something we normally wouldn't. Activities can take place both indoors and outdoors and can include things such as sports, exploration, board, card and computer games, movies, science projects, and virtually anything else you may be interested in. The main goal is having fun together and gaining new experiences. $5 MATERIAL FEE
