After School Program ~ Mentor Application

Thank you for your interest in working at Education Stations the Melrose Public Schools after-school program. Applications are currently being accepted for Spring 2016-2017 and Fall 2017-2018. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Education Stations is recruiting energetic and outgoing High School students (Sophomores, Juniors, & Seniors) who know how to have FUN while being a role model to younger students. “Mentors” participate fully with the children they lead through many types of enrichment activities (i.e. gym games, arts/crafts, and homework help). Please continue if you have a positive attitude and enjoy working with elementary aged students in a fast-paced team environment! Please completely fill out each field to apply. Mentors are paid $11 per hour. Shifts start at 2:30 and end at 4:30 or 5:30 Monday-Friday. All employees under 18 years of age will be required to turn in a youth work permit.

Or gain some community service credit by Volunteering for Education Stations. For volunteer opportunities please inquire with Debra Parsons or email dparsons@melroseschools.com

Mentor:

Mentors will be assisting the group leader in keeping the group safe, happy and on-track with their behavior.

Mentors help by transitioning students through the daily activities including drop off and pick up, specialty activities (taught by teachers), free time, homework, move & groove, and daily samplers.

Mentors are expected to show initiative, looking for ways to assist.

Mentors are to help group leaders and teachers by carrying out assignments or requests, and seeking direction when unsure of how to be the most useful.

Mentors help promote a fun, safe and inclusive feeling in their group.

During specialty lessons, mentors will be expected to assist students and staff as designated by the teacher.

Superior teamwork, communication and listening skills, patience, problem solving abilities and critical thinking will be required to successfully fulfill mentor roles on campus.
