Elective Descriptions:

FALL-
Drama- Students are introduced to the skills and disciplines needed to be a focused and successful actor.

Art- Students will learn principles and elements of design, incorporated with art history, which will be integrated into various art projects.

Intro to Trade- Students will be exposed to key concepts from the systems used in manufacturing
processes and will incorporate problem-solving, design, technical communication, modeling,
testing, evaluation, and implications of technology.

Exploring Family and Consumer Science-empowers students to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society.

Coding- Students will be introduced to engaging, culturally relevant, and high-quality computer science instruction through coding challenges that will excite and inspire an interest in computer science.

Band- Learn to play woodwinds or percussion and perform at concerts!

Yearbook-8th Graders only-develop students’ skills in yearbook production by providing experiences in selected aspects of yearbook production.  Students learn basic principals of yearbook production and develop skills that include writing copy, captions and headlines; digital photography; desktop publishing and using appropriate technology tools for media production. (APPLICATION REQUIRED)

Peer Helping/Student Aide-This elective course allows students with a minimum grade of “C” in all classes to assist
in school, as needed. Duties may include answering the phone, greeting guests, assisting
students, delivering messages, and other tasks as requested. Prompt attendance and
professional behavior is required. (APPLICATION IS REQUIRED)

SPRING
Chorus- Learn the basics of group music and participate with other singers to make beautiful music!

Spanish- Learn basics of the Spanish language!

Technology Engineering and Design -  This middle school course focuses on applying the design process in the invention or innovation of a new product, process, or system. Through engaging activities and hands-on projects, students focus on understanding how criteria, constraints, and processes affect designs. Emphasis is placed on brainstorming, visualizing, modeling, testing, and refining designs.

Exploring Biotechnology & Health- students use hands-on, inquiry-based lessons to explore careers related to medicine, nursing, and health science programs

Entrepreneurship-explore the nature of business in an international economy and to study related careers in fields such as entrepreneurship, financial services, information technology, marketing, office systems technology, public relations and promotion, travel and tourism.
