About this Opportunity
Mathnasium is seeking FUN and SKILLFUL part-time instructors who love to teach math, love to work with kids, and are comfortable teaching 2nd graders through Algebra 2 students.

Mathnasium is an educational franchise with approximately 1,000 learning centers in North America. Our company, Big Apple Math, LLC owns and operates the three Mathnasium centers in Manhattan (Upper East Side, Upper West Side, and Union Square) in addition to two locations in Brooklyn (Boerum Hill and Brooklyn Heights). We are now offering both in-person and online instruction.

As part of our team, you would be teaching kids to think in the ways that natural mathematical thinkers do and helping to create a warm, positive, and inspiring environment. Mathnasium instructors use top-notch curriculum materials and provide a slight level of homework support in a semi-private setting (up to a 3:1 ratio) and private setting (1:1). Students work through their own customized learning plans, so there is no lesson planning required.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide effective and concise math instruction using the Mathnasium thinking constructs
  • Assist in tracking the progress of each student
  • Complete administrative tasks as they are assigned
  • Contribute to the creation of an engaging and productive learning environment
  • Engage in initial and on-going training


Requirements:
  • Exceptional math content knowledge and teaching skills through Algebra 2. Must have at least 1 year of math teaching or math tutoring experience with children between the ages of 6 and 17. Teacher Certification is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and multi-tasking skills
  • Energetic, patient, and confident personality
  • Ability to professionally interact with students and parents
  • Must have an undergraduate degree or must be a College Junior or Senior studying a STEM or education-related field
  • Must be available from 3pm-7pm at least 3 weekdays and be willing to regularly work on at least one weekend day 2-3 weekends/month.
