3/12/2014 10:20:01Nick Benzamacbenz@gmail.comI'm currently running ubuntu on my litecoin mining rig that I built. Controlling that machine with another machine thru SSH protocol on the command line was so fun, that's why I decided to sign up for Intro to Unix/Linux at CCSF.

Before that though, I never touched Linux. I have used the command line sparingly when taking a ruby-on-rails tutorial.
Professor Metzler at CCSF mentioned it to us in our online discussion.Anything I can contribute to that I can put on my resume and LinkedIn. Absolutely!ruby, html, bashNoneNoneWhen I was doing the rails tutorial, we used Sublime Text 2.

As far as Linux goes, I have experience with Pico, Nano, but my favorite is Vi.
YesGit/Github when doing a rails tutorial. Every chapter we ended with the "git dance", new commits, etc.No.Yes. Three. From least to greatest:

1. Litecoin mining rig running on Ubuntu 12.04, used solely for the purpose of mining litecoins.
2. 2007 iMac - Somewhat on the end of it's long run. Running OS X Mavericks. 10.9 I believe.
3. 2011 15" MacbookPro - This is my main machine. Also running OS X Mavericks 10.9
2011 15" MacbookPro - This is my main machine. OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

Not sure about IDE's, but yes the editors mentioned above are on the machine.

3/12/2014 14:31:48Sylvain Chambonschambon@mail.ccsf.eduDespite the fact I'm using Mac OS X as my everyday OS, I am very concerned about open source project and use many of them such as Firefox, VLC, Open Office, LaTeX, MySQL, Apache, etc. I'm also familiar with Linux which was my OS for about 10 years. AS a teacher, I told students to prefer using open source program because they are simply better.A classmate (Katherine Moloney) talked about it in class.GeoGebra (http://www.geogebra.org/) is my favorite open source project. As a math teacher, I use it very often with students.I'm thrill to understand how the open source community is able to achieve such wonderful projects being so widely (worldly) spread. I'm also curious about how to maybe contribute to some project.CSS, HTML, SQL, XML, ruby, javascript, ...C++, python, androidJava, LaTeXEclipse, sublime text, textwrangler, vimNoI've use git before but I'm just familiar about how to get a project from github and make some commitsI've heard about bugzilla and had a look at the one used by mozilla but just scratched the surface...I have an iMac currently running on OS X.I have a laptop running on OS X.Nope!

3/13/2014 1:52:47Kevinkevr@ccsfcc.netI support open source 100%. I've been using Linux operating systems for a long time and prefer them over the monstrosity that is Windoze. Of course, this is my personal view on it! I have not contributed to many big real projects in my life time, however, I have contributed very small things throughout the years. Now that I'm serious in programming, I want to contribute much more. I'm a C/C++ programmer as well as learning Python from the bottom up. I can also script in various shell languages. I am still learning every day, and I will be until I die! I feel like people should not be forced to pay money for software when their organizations or goals require it!I discovered this event through Katherine Moloney, head of CCSF Women Who Code. I have also been told things about it by various other people who participated last summer.Weechat, any program that a person at my intermediate level can take part of. Also, I would like to contribute to some various projects when dealing with dependency issues on certain systems.Am I excited? I've been waiting for this my whole life.CSS, HTML, perl, javascript, java, perl, haskellC, C++, I would not say that I'm advanced in any language. However, this depends on the context of "ADVANCED" here. People do certainly get paid for writing in programming languages, but they are not always advanced enough to be the perfect person for the job. I would say that I could probably get a job writing code, but I would not feel right doing it for anything out of my league.vimYesYes. Github as well as my own hacked up scripts to manage versioning locally.Apache, GithubYes. Arch Linux and has Windows 8.1 on Dual-boot for school purposes.Yes. 3/13/2014 12:02:02Alexey GolubevAlekseriator@gmail.comI have recently install Arch Linux on my macbook and I have been spending time setting up my system to run the way I want it. During the set up I have encountered times when I had to choose if I had to go with open source software vs proprietary. I learned a lot about it and watched documentaries to see all of the people behind the movement like Linux Torvalds and Richard Stallman. It has been fun learning about all of this stuff and I'm looking to learn even more.I have been waiting for it for a while since I first saw a posting about it at the CCSF's coder's club.I'm learning Java programming and C++ currently. I'm still learning a lot, therefore I can't really participate doing a lot of development, but I really want to learn more so that I can begin to contribute.Everything, but more technical stuff and not things that are easily learned just by seeing a tutorial online.Javascript, java, C++, C, Bash.Javanone at that lessonVim!YesGitnoMac OS X and Arch LinuxUsing Vim for development while running Arch Linux.I WANNA EAT ANYTHING!!!!

3/21/2014 15:28:06Richard Szetorszeto@mail.ccsf.eduI current use both Ubuntu and Fedora. I have written some C code that added functionality to FreeBSD through the kernel. I also enjoy using open source software.I found out about this event on the white board in Batmale 413.In the past I wanted to use a light open source GUI program to draw UML diagrams, programmed in C. I decided to use Umbrello. I used it for a while and it was good to use, but it had an annoying bug that desperately needed to be fixed. I didn't have the time to begin working on it back then.Documentation, programming style, programming techniques, and programming optimization through the use of data structures and algorithms.css, html, xml, Prolog, Lisp, Python.AndroidC, C++, Java, LatexSublime, vim, Eclipse, texmakerYesNoNoWindows 7, Fedora 16Windows 7, Ubuntu 12.10 LTS.
