FOCUS Program Expectations
The FOCUS program is an amazing place – a place of fresh starts and new beginnings. It is a place for you to become the learner that you have always had in you but haven’t been able to demonstrate. Placement in this program is a privilege that goes hand in hand with a number of responsibilities. It is very important that you review each section upon entrance into the FOCUS program and again at the start of each new semester. If you respect these parameters, this program can help you reach your full potential and achieve dreams you never thought possible. We believe in you and can’t wait to see

1) A FOCUS student is expected to: a) be a motivated, independent learner b) attend FOCUS classes regularly and participate in regular attendance checks to assess progress c) attend all electives and deliver signed progress reports from elective teachers to FOCUS teachers every two weeks  d) attend elective classes on Friday afternoons even though FOCUS classes do not run on FOCUS Fridays. e) respect his/her FOCUS and elective teachers and always strive to grow in maturity both personally and as a learner. *

2) A FOCUS student has the right to: a) take two academic courses with FOCUS each semester and two elective courses. b) be treated with respect and kindness in the classroom c) be given a fresh start in FOCUS regardless of his/her past experiences in school. *

3) A FOCUS student can request a THIRD block in FOCUS only when: a) he/she has been a full time FOCUS student (two courses with FOCUS) for one entire semester  b) he/she has attended FOCUS the previous semester with a 75% or greater attendance rate c) he/she has received permission from the appropriate FOCUS teacher. *

4) A FOCUS student can request a newly offered course in FOCUS only when: a) he/she has been a full time FOCUS student (two courses with FOCUS) for one entire semester b) he/she has attended FOCUS the previous semester with a 75% or greater attendance rate. c) he/she has received permission from the appropriate FOCUS teacher. Permission or rejection of the request is at the discretion of the teacher *
