Dear Area 1 Club Presidents

This weekend, our own club and Shelterbox Response Team member, Owen Smith, is competing in the Round Taupo Cycle race. At 160km, with a shelter box attached to his bike, Owen hopes to raise enough for six shelterboxes. He has raised over $4,000 so far. My appeal to your clubs is to support our local SRT member and sponsor a kilometer of his ride for $50 per kilometer. Owen is a very committed member of the shelterbox team and is a great champion for it. For those who think it is an international project, shelterboxes were used in our own backyard in Christchurch with the earthquakes - they were used as medical tents and served a vital purpose in the weeks after our own natural disaster.

Please give your support to Owen and his “Ride for Dignity” by donating $50

per km and help him to make this a successful event. Thank you for your

support. You can access Owen’s fundraising page by using this link:

Kind regards

Subject: Owens cycle ride for Shelterbox

Hi everyone

Thank you so much for supporting and sponsoring the Shelterbox " Ride for Dignity " I am doing on Saturday. If any of you are interested in checking on our progress around Lake Taupo on Saturday the spot tracker should show where we are on google maps in pretty much live time. It updates our position every 10 minutes. Just paste the link below into your browser and you can follow our progress just like in  a real Shelterbox deployment.

I will have sister Jude and her UK brother in law Peter riding with me around the lake wearing our new Shelterbox cycling shirts and me with the Shelterbox on the trailer. Fellow SB response team member Sally Fletcher will be at a Shelterbox display in Heuheu St in the Taupo CBD being set up by the Taupo Espresso Rotary Club. All in all it should be a great day, the weather forcast is for light winds, not much rain and lots of fun I hope.

I will also update the blog on the website http://shelterboxridefordignity.tcnwk.com/ before and after the race so check in and see whats happening if you like.

Kind regards

Owen Smith
