#RefugeesWelcome // Call Governor Hogan
An important way to fight Trump's bigoted executive orders is to get Governor Hogan to strongly condemn them and commit to preventing their implementation in Maryland. Republican opposition is key! Please take 5 minutes right now to call Governor Hogan at 410-974-3901.

Here is a sample script. Feel free to ad-lib, and if you have a personal immigration story that you feel comfortable sharing, please add it!

"I am calling to ask that the Governor clearly, unequivocally, and publicly denounce President Trump's executive order on immigration and refugees in its entirety: the travel and entry ban from seven majority-Muslim countries, the cessation of refugee resettlement for those fleeing Syria, the halt to all refugee admissions for 90 days, the promise to reduce refugee admissions overall, and the new religious preference for non-Muslim refugees. Governor Hogan portrays himself as a thoughtful, moderate Republican in step with the diversity of Maryland. It is time for him to show it and lead."

ACTION: Resist as a Marylander // Call your legislator
The Maryland General Assembly leadership released a slate of five legislative priorities in defense of Marylanders' rights against the President's anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant, and anti-refugee executive orders. However, they didn't include the Trust Act, which would prevent police officers from asking about people's immigration status and working alongside Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport people.

Take five minutes this morning to call your Maryland legislators and tell them that this is disgraceful. Find your state senator and delegates here: http://mdelect.net. Here is a sample script:

My name is ____________and I am a constituent of Senator/Delegate____________. I'm calling to share how upset I was to see that the Trust Act was not included in the leadership's state of legislative priorities to defend Marylanders' rights against President Trump's actions. As I'm sure you know, the Trust Act would prevent police officers from asking about people's immigration status and working with ICE to deport people. I want to urge Senator/Delegate ______________ to strongly push to include the Trust Act in leadership's priorities. Our Muslim and immigrant brothers and sisters must be protected from threatening hateful executive orders that threaten them.
