DescriptionThe Open Medical Record System (OpenMRS®) is an
open source medical record platform for developing
countries. It is a common platform upon which medical
informatics efforts can be built. The system is based on
a conceptual database and can be customized for
different uses. It allows implementers to design a
customized medical records system with little or no
programming skills. OpenMRS features include a
Central concept dictionary, Modular architecture and
Standards support.
Regenstrief RAMRS features a central concept dictionary, and Standards support. It has been the framework for supporting a large HIE in Indiana for over 15 years.OpenXDS is a document based storage and sharing system that forms part of OpenHealthToolshttps://github.com/jembi/OpenSHR/wiki/Description-of-Mohawk-EHRS-ArchitectureOSCAR is an open source EMR system developed at McMaster University and largely used in Canada. Even though it's an EMR, OSCAR supports HL7 for OSCAR-to-OSCAR communications (http://www.oscarmanual.org/oscar_emr_12/developers/oscarcomm/oscar-to-oscar-communication) and this feature may give it the potential for use as an SHR. Also of benefit may be the Data Integrator project (http://new.oscarmanual.org/oscar_emr_12/developers/data-integrator/introduction-to-the-oscar-data-integrator-project).OpenEMR is a Free and Open Source electronic health records and medical practice management application that can run on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and many other platforms. OpenEMR is ONC Complete Ambulatory EHR certified and is one of the most popular open source electronic medical records in use today. OpenEMR is supported by a strong community of volunteers and professionals all with the common goal of making OpenEMR a superior alternative to its proprietary counterparts. The OpenEMR community is dedicated to guarding OpenEMR's status as a free, open source software solution for medical practices and is dedicated to maintaining a spirit of openness, kindness and cooperation. - See more at: http://www.open-emr.org/#sthash.jGDPG9jp.dpufOpenVista is the open-source version of VistA, an enterprise grade health care information system developed by the U.S. Veterans Affairs and deployed at 1,500 global facilities.

SupportOpenMRS volunteers, core developers and
implementers maintain developer and implementer
mailing lists. OpenMRS has its own answer support
system. The core team also hosts weekly calls to share
knowledge. However, free support is not guaranteed
for implementations. Alternatively, they
(implementers) may open tickets and ask for guidance.
Core development and support is focused at Regenstrief at present. OpenXDS is a community project and as such does not offer any commercial support. There is a community discussion forum available at http://bit.ly/14GuRGw for project support. However, the forum is not very active.Commercial support available from various Canadian organizations (http://www.oscarcanada.org/support).Professional support is available: http://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/OpenEMR_Professional_SupportCommercial support available from MedSphere (http://www.medsphere.com/)

CommunityA large and active community of volunteers,
professionals and academics. Also maintains mailing
lists and a wiki.
The community is limited to Regenstrief at the moment. It is planned that an active community will be created. The community does not appear to be very active.Has an active community and various user groups (http://www.oscarcanada.org/usersgroups/oscar-mailing-lists-discussion-forums, http://www.oscarcanada.org/usersgroups)Has an active community with forum based support: http://www.open-emr.org/forum.shtml
