MUSIC SHARE AND CARE - Donation: for bus on field trip collected during trimester *
Learn fun songs like “You Are My Sunshine” from the early 1900’s that is one of the favorite songs of all time, especially with our grandparents’ generation.  We will learn easy songs like this and then have the opportunity to take at least one field trip where we can sing those songs for senior citizens and invite them to sing along!  This gives seniors a moment of happiness and helps them to feel good by hearing music they know.  We will mostly be singing, however there may be an opportunity for advanced instrumental students to play their instrument as well.   This exploratory will also perform for the younger students of school as a way of teaching them music of an earlier generation.
Yearbook - Donation: None *
Create a product to commemorate your memories at PV. Students will design the Plaza Vista Yearbook with memorable stories and events.  They will take and collect photos, write and edit copy (captions and stories), and assist with layout. ***This is a two-trimester course; students in yearbook during 1st Trimester will continue with this exploratory for 2nd trimester.
Keyboarding and Introduction to Programming – Donation: None *
"Keyboarding is an important skill for all students. It involves using correct finger placement and building speed for optimal typing accuracy. When students develop keyboarding proficiency, it becomes an aid to the improvement of their writing skills. It is recommended that all students begin to learn correct placement of fingers on the keyboard as soon as they begin to use the computer” (abckeyboarding.com). Students will improve typing speed and accuracy as well as learn important and applicable word processing skills. Students who score a certain WPM score and below during the pre-test will be automatically enrolled in this class. During the class, students who reach their mastery goal will continue using their keyboarding skills through Typing Agent to start coding lessons as an introduction to the concepts of programming!  They will walk through the HTML and JavaScript necessary to create their own game which they can then play! These lessons use upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters. Just like in typing words, learning to type code is ALL about accuracy.”
Creative Writing - Donation: None *
Students will craft their own novels with an emphasis on character development and plot design using excerpts from popular and well-written novels as models.
