The Action Team Member supports the further development of community voice within HOPE collaborative and the larger community through peer leadership. The Action Team Member will work towards participating and supporting HOPE Collaborative action teams, projects, and planned activities in one or more of following areas:
Healthy food and economy• Participate in trainings to learn how to conduct community surveys and awareness-raising activities • Conduct surveys of residents to get input on what changes the Healthy Corner Store Project should do • Help plan and volunteer at healthy corner store community events and other outreach activities • Attend HOPE community meetings including Healthy Corner Store Team meetings
Healthy and safe Elmhurst neighborhood• Conduct outreach to youth in Elmhurst neighborhood to engage them in HOPE’s work • Outreach to involve Elmhurst residents in the neighborhood planning process and implementation projects. Includes flyering, tabling, door knocking, and attending community meetings.• Help plan and volunteer at community events and activities. May include planning an activity, helping with logistics, preparing and serving food, tree planting, block clean ups, gardening, running activities for kids, outreach, etc.• Work with other HOPE members and staff to update neighborhood website/blog, podcasts, or other multimedia communications.
Qualifications • A resident of Oakland• Successful completion of a HOPE Collaborative new member orientation process and application • Some experience or desire to learn to speak in public, facilitate presentations and lead activities • Some experience with community leadership activities desired but not required • Built Environment Action Team members should live, work, or socialize in Elmhurst neighborhood and be connected with young adults in the neighborhood. We are especially seeking Spanish speaking individuals for outreach in the Elmhurst and bi-lingual people familiar with social media and web content development to work on communications.
Other roles and responsibilities • Select one action team (food systems or built environment) and regularly participate in that action team’s meetings • Support the activities and programs of that action team• Table and conduct outreach at approved community events with other HOPE members• Participate in monthly HOPE Community Member meetings• Volunteer at HOPE New Member Orientation• Regularly meet with staff to assess participation and goals • Meet with a current project leader and learn about their work • Advocate for what you want to change or improve in your community• Participate in a check in with HOPE staff every 3 months about on-going participation and more elevated leadership opportunities
