NOTES:
33
*As part of Evidence Action's grant balance cleanup process conducted between late 2016 and mid 2017, additional costs for the TakeUp study of $148,952 were discovered. These unexpected, unplanned costs for TakeUp were covered through DtWI reserves, and appear as an "Other/Adjustments" costs within the Global area, in cell C27 of the table above.
34
*In 2016 Evidence Action's deworming program in India transitioned operations away from InKlude Labs and funded the start-up of the organization PKIPL. As a for-profit entity, Evidence Action has been advised that PKIPL must demonstrate a profit each year to avoid scrutiny and legitimize itself as a profit making company. To accomplish this, Evidence Action incurs a 5% fee on all 'services'/costs related to PKIPL and our India portfolio. This was not anticipated during start up and therefore not included in grant budgets; DtWI's funders who support restricted scopes of work do not cover this cost and so DtWI had to use program reserves to cover these costs. The adjustment of this cost is reflected in the $70,629 credit in cell E14 and debit in cell E27 in the 'other/adjustments' rows in the table above. An additional $4,482 in global indirect costs, which correspond to this adjustment, has been adjusted in a similar way.
35
**Given discrepancies between DtWI's negotiated indirect cost rates with program restricted donors and Evidence Action's effective rate for 2017 (~18%), DtWI has used program reserves to cover $226,437 in 'unrecovered' IDC costs. These are included within the figure in cell L29.

NOTES:
70
*As highlighted above, Evidence Action incurs a 5% fee on all 'services'/costs related to PKIPL and our India portfolio. This was not anticipated during start up and therefore not included in grant budgets; DtWI's funders who support restricted scopes of work do not cover this cost and so DtWI had to use program reserves to cover these costs. The adjustment of this cost is reflected in a $80,762.09 credit in cell E50 and debit in cell E64 in the 'other/adjustments' rows of the table above. An additional $5,136.17 in global indirect costs, which correspond to this adjustment, has been adjusted in a similar way.
71
*In early 2017, DtWI closed out an old grant related to deworming in Bihar, India. This required the program to utilize ~$45k in general support funds to cover a portion of the program's costs that were defined as a cost-share between the donor and Evidence Action. Subsequent analysis indicated that the costs coded to the funder were overstated by $20,737 and so a credit was issued to DtWI's general support funds to reduce the ~$45k reclassification of costs. This transaction is included as a credit in cell E50 and debit in cell E64.
72
*As part of the 2016/2017 grant balance cleanup and grant closeout process, a reconciliation was completed from inception to date of costs coded to DtWI's CIFF Kenya grant. $189,966 in costs not reported to CIFF were identified; ~$80k in 2015 regional Africa costs that were processed as an audit adjustment and ~$110k in program costs from 2014 that were posted subsequent to reporting and not previously identified. Given that this grant is slated to close in September 2017 and has no additional funds remaining, DtWI program reserves have been used to cover these costs. This transfer is the main portion of the credit in cell F50 and debit in cell F64.
73
*In addition to the items highlighted above, a series of smaller adjustments are reflected in the table above totaling $6,563. These are reflected as transfer from DtWI's program restricted funds to the program's reserves/general support funds. These adjustments comprise part of the grant balance cleanup, related to either a) closeout of old grants or b) alignment of balances with reported costs on active grants.
74
**January and February 2016 were the last two months which Evidence Action supported deworming in India through InKlude Labs. Costs related to the final InKlude transactions on Evidence Action's books and unrecoverable costs (India and global) from IPA/USAID ($567,112 reflected in cell E49 and $314,989 in cell E63, and $234,725 reflected in cells C47 and C61) are represented in the rows labeled "India/InKlude Costs." The $234,725 in cell C63 is for global USAID costs through December 2015 and the $314,989 in cell E63 is for InKlude Labs costs through February 2016; these costs were projected at $250k and $380k respectively in prior discussions with GiveWell surrounding DtWI's commitments and use of general support funds. These costs are related to deworming's usual program activity areas, however, given the subpar management of invoices/reporting it is not possible to break these costs out across activities. This challenge has been eliminated with the set-up of PKIPL, and costs now flow into Evidence Action's system in a clean and clear way that support DtWI's reporting requirements.
