Director Positions
The Director positions will receive a stipend. The average workload of the directors is about 5-7 hours per week. This includes weekly office hours, office meetings, and other specific Director-related duties.

Descriptions:

Chief of Staff
The chief of staff to the GSA Vice President of External Affairs is responsible for mentoring the directors to help them lead their own teams. The chief-of-staff is also responsible for guiding the directors to achieve their goals. Aside from organizational management, the chief of staff will work side by side with the GSA External Vice President in working with local, state, and national organizations to advocate on student issues. The chief of staff will also be responsible for assisting the Vice President with planning the logistics for the various conferences that the UCLA GSA office will partake in. In the absence of the GSA Vice President of External Affairs, the chief of staff shall lead the GSA Office of the VPEX.
• Chief-of-staff is expected to work 6-12 hours a week from the end of the 2016-2017 academic year to the end of the 2017-2018 academic year.
• Chief-of-staff is compensated $600/quarter starting the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year.
• The selected applicant for the position of chief-of-staff will begin training for the position in May 2017.


Local Legislative Director
The Local Legislative Director will focus on local legislative advocacy. This includes regular attendance in meetings for the neighborhood council, city council, district supervisor, and any other related local meetings. The Director will be responsible for keeping a track of all local issues and topics relevant to the UCLA graduate students and students as a whole. The Director will also be tasked with setting up meetings with various local political leaders to establish a strong line of communication between the GSA and the local legislature. The Local Legislative Director will be given the opportunity to hire and lead Legislative Aides to accomplish the above-mentioned goals during the 2017-2018 academic year.
• The Local Legislative Director is expected to work 3-5 hours a week from the end of the 2016-2017 academic year to the end of the 2017-2018 academic year.
• The Local Legislative Director is compensated $400/quarter starting the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year.
• The selected applicant for the position of the Local Legislative Director will begin training for the position in May 2017.


State & National Legislative Director
The State & National Legislative Director will focus on statewide and national legislative advocacy. This includes regular attendance in meetings for the UC Office of the President, UC Board of Regents, Student Advocates for Graduate Education (SAGE), State Assembly and Senate hearings, and any other related statewide and/or national meetings. More specifically, the Director will be responsible for attending the monthly meetings for the UC Student Association (travel will be covered by GSA). The Director will also be responsible for leading the UCLA GSA delegation for the UC Student Lobby Conference, as well as any other state and national legislative conferences. The Director will be responsible for keeping a track of all state and national issues and topics relevant to the UCLA graduate students and students as a whole. The Director will also be tasked with setting up visits with various state and national representatives to establish a strong line of communication between the GSA and the state and national legislature. The State & National Legislative Director will be given the opportunity to hire and lead Legislative Aides to accomplish the above-mentioned goals during the 2017-2018 academic year.

The State & National Organizing Director will focus on statewide and national organizing and grassroots advocacy. This includes having regular meetings with the various advocacy networks and coalitions across the state and nation. The Director will specifically have to attend the monthly meetings for the UC Student Association (travel will be covered by GSA). The Director will also be responsible for leading the UCLA GSA delegation for the UC Students of Color Conference, as well as any other state or national organizing and advocacy conferences. The Director will be responsible for keeping a track of all statewide and national advocacy issues and topics relevant to the UCLA graduate students and students as a whole. The State & National Organizing Director will be given the opportunity to hire and lead Grassroots Organizers to accomplish the above-mentioned goals during the 2017-2018 academic year.

Labor & Union Liaison
The Labor & Union Liaison will focus on all union-related and labor advocacy issues in UCLA. This includes having regular attendance in meetings of the United Auto Workers (UAW 2865), the union for the TAs and Post-Doc students at UCLA. In addition, the Director will hold regular meetings with the leaders of various unions on campus, such as the AFSCME 3299 union organizers, as well as other union organizers, in order to provide support for the unions' efforts. Additionally, the Liaison, along with the Local Organizing Director, will serve as liaisons between the GSA and the Student Labor Advocacy Project at UCLA.The Labor &Union Liaison will be given the opportunity to hire and lead Grassroots Organizers to accomplish the above-mentioned goals during the 2017-2018 academic year.
• The Labor & Union Liaison is expected to work 3-5 hours a week from the end of the 2016-2017 academic year to the end of the 2017-2018 academic year.
• The Labor & Union Liaison is compensated $400/quarter starting the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year.
• The selected applicant for the position of the Labor & Union Liaison will begin training for the position in May 2017.
