Build for Unity brings together people of all colors, creeds and communities to counter intolerance and fund and build homes for local families in need.
In the midst of our current national divisions and increased faith-related violence, Habitat feels it’s time to bring diverse and rich traditions together to make a statement about our shared values in New York City: diversity, inclusion and community. Since this initiative launched in Sacramento, California, last year, communities across the country have come together to sponsor and build their own Build for Unity homes.
Please fill out the registration form below to register for a day of service. Please note that there are a limited number of spaces available; only sign up for the day if you are sure you will be able to commit your time. More information will be emailed to you the week before the date of the project. Fordham has sent over 700 volunteers to work with Habitat in the Rockaways and Yonkers in the past four years and there is a high demand for all spots so if you are unable to attend, please cancel as soon as possible to allow others to attend in your place.

What: Dean Street Project Description Volunteers will build side by side with family partners, interfaith partners and students, and AmeriCorps leaders on any of the phases of home construction at our newest development, the Dean Street Residences. Located in the Ocean-Hill/Brownsville section of Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, Dean Street will be a four-story, multi-family building, comprised of 15 two-bedroom apartments.
Work could include framing and other carpentry, sheetrock, flooring, or painting. Whatever you do, you will learn a little about construction, revitalize this neighborhood, and give families a chance at a better future in a new Habitat home.
Cost: $5.00 - Registration fee due by Thursday, March 23. All deposits will be donated to Habitat for Humanity to help with the cost of our service day and are not refundable.
We will meet at 8:00 am. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on-site. We will be departing from our service site around 4:15 pm and expect to return to campus by 5:30 pm.
We ask that you come prepared to do demolition and construction-type work. If you have work boots, please wear them and weather appropriate clothing. Bring a bottle of water.
