My Culture, Your Culture, and Success in the Classroom
Please join staff trainers Mary Bussman, Heidi Fransen and Paula O'Loughlin of Equity Alliance MN in "My Culture, Your Culture and Success in the Classroom" to learn how our own culture impacts our classroom interactions and school climate. This daylong professional learning will feature discussion, activities, and reflection to assist teachers in developing cultural awareness of their own cultural selves and their relationships to others. Participants will identify and name personal core values and how those impact classroom communities, and will learn about dimensions of cultures such as communal vs. independent thinking; cyclical vs. clock time orientation; direct vs. indirect communication and more. Lastly, participants will discuss implicit bias, learn how to become aware of it, and discuss how to change behaviors influenced by it. By growing in our understanding of self, we can grow in our connections to others to create more culturally responsive classrooms and schools.
