School Management Committee (SMC)  2014-17

The Plan

The SMC (socal management committee) will consist of Parents, Staff, Community members and Teachers, this Body will be required to meet 5 or more times in a year to create and implement plans for the school, on the basis of the plan the Bhadrajun Artisans Trust (BAT) will release the funding for the school.

The purpose of the SMC (School Management Committee) is four-fold:

(i) to serve as a demanding partner in engaging the Principal concerning the strategic direction of the school; (ii) to provide advice and counsel to the Principal with respect to curriculum and needs of the School community; (iii) to work with students and faculty in programs of interest ; and (iv) to assist in the development of the school.

I. Composition

The School Management Board (hereinafter referred to as the “SMC”) will consists of 15 persons as below:

A) Chairman: Nominated by the Bhadrajun Artisans Trust (BAT)

B) Principal of The Fabindia School, Bali will be the Ex Officio member & Secretary

C) Parent Representation : 5 members

D) Staff Representation: 2 members

E) Community Representation: 2 members

F) Board of Directors (Trustees of BAT) - 2 members

G) Alumni Members (Ex-students) - 2 members

II. Selection

A) Parent representatives - 5 positions will be selected from the parents, each representing Senior (+2),  Middle ( Class 7-10), Junior (Class 3-6), Sub-Junior (Class 1-3) and Pre Primary wings of the school. Parents who volunteer will be selected. If the number of parents volunteering is more than the number of representatives in each wing, then the selection shall be by draw of lots which will be held in the presence of such number of SMC members as are on the Board at that time.  Person selected will hold term of 3 years. Selection will be done every 3 years, or as and when a vacancy arises.

B) Staff representatives - 2 positions to be selected by the teachers and approved by the SMT  (Senior Management Team - comprising of the Principal, Manager, Vice Principal and Supervisors).

 C) Community representatives - 2 positions of to be selected by the Principal of The Fabindia School and the Chairperson.

D) The Director of the School and a nominee of the BAT Board Board

G) Two Alumni members, preferable one serving in the School to help coordinate Alumni affairs and one Alumni be invited who is a true ambassador of the School, will actively participate and will help build the Alumni network. Once the SMC is formed the Alumni members will be selected by consensus.

III. Duties

The members of the SMC are bound by the following duties and responsibilities and as further laid down by the BAT Board:

A) Create a 3 year plan to improve the quality of education given by The Fabindia School.

B) Create a plan in accordance with the Vision Plan and the as per the Memorandum and Articles of Association and the Rules/ Bye Laws of the Bhadrajun Artisans Trust.

C) Ensure that the plan so created is implemented over their 3 year term.

IV. Term

The members of the Body, other than the Principal and the Chairperson, will be for a term of 3 years, upon the expiry of which, they will cease to be members. After the expiry of the term, the members are eligible to reappear for selection. However a member can only be selected for two consecutive periods of three years.

V. Remuneration

All members of the SMC are Volunteers other than the Chairperson and the Principal and will not be paid but may be given a token fee or any such sum as may be decided by the SMC from time to time, for attending the SMC Meetings, subject to the availability of funds and budget approved by BAT.

VI. Voting Rights

All members of the SMC shall have one vote. However in the case of a tie, the Chairperson shall have the casting vote i.e. the right to cast another vote to beat the tie.

VII. Disqualification of Membership

The members of the SMC, other than the Principal and the Chairperson, may be disqualified of the following terms:

a) If he/she attends less than 3 meetings in a year without specific clearance from the chairperson to do so.

b) In case of parent representatives, if their child ceases to be in the school.

c) In case of staff representatives, if the staff members ends his/ her relationship with the school or is suspended by the school management pending enquiry or is charged of any breach of discipline as per the terms of service.

d) In case of th e expiry of the said 3 year term, in which case the member is eligible to be selected again.

e) if in the opinion of 2/3rd majority of the SMC, a member is not performing duties or not discharging his obligation in the best interest of the School or the Bhadrajun Artisans Trust.

VIII Organisation Structure

SMC is the school management body from  Bali and adjoining areas, guides the Principal of The Fabindia School and works for school development.

IX. Amendments

SMC Role at The Fabindia School.jpgAny amendment/s change, addition, deletion, alteration to these bye laws can be made at the meeting of the SMC by a 2/3rd majority of the members present and voting.

X. Committees and Subcommittees

The SMC may involve the larger community and invite / nominate members to convene groups and sub committees to further the growth and development of the school. Such members for the sub committees could be professionals and volunteers from anywhere in the world and who have the interest and proficiency to take ahead the agenda.
