Students riding the bus are expected to:

• Arrive at their bus stop 10 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time.
• Wait no less than 10 feet from the curb or side of the street when waiting for the bus.
• Always use the hand rail when going up or down the stairs in the bus.
• Immediately follow instructions given by the bus driver.
• Stay seated, facing forward, whenever the bus is in motion. Easy reminder: “Back to back, Seat to seat.”
• Talk quietly. Yelling, screaming or using offensive language is never allowed on the bus.
• Keep their hands, legs, and belongings to themselves. Nothing is to hang out the window or block the aisle of the bus.
• Keep the bus clean. Garbage is to be put in the garbage bin at the front of the bus.
• Keep food and drinks in their backpacks. Eating and drinking are not allowed on school buses.
• Never run after the bus or pick up anything that has fallen near or under the bus.
• BE RESPECTFUL TO THE BUS DRIVER AND FELLOW BUS RIDERS AT ALL TIMES

Parents also can help their student by:

• Becoming familiar with School District bus stop and riding rules, policies, and regulations along with the principles of school bus safety, and thoroughly review them with their children.
• Reinforcing safe riding and loading/unloading practices, including encouraging students to check for traffic.
• Having their students properly dressed for inclement weather. It is best to wear clothing that is light colored or reflective.
• Having a plan for what a student should do in case a bus is late, there is inclement weather, or the student misses the bus. (In the case of missing the bus, the parent or guardian is responsible for transporting the child.)
• Communicating safety concerns or dangerous behavior to the school principal or school administrator.
• Recognizing that students are responsible for their own actions on the bus.
