English I Honors is recommended for freshmen who have strong reading and writing skills in addition to strong work/study habits. This accelerated, year-long course prepares students for the academic rigors of future honors classes such as sophomore honors, junior AP English, and senior AP English. It is considered a pre-AP (Advanced Placement) course, and it is designed to build a foundation of skills through reading and analyzing classic literature in addition to polishing critical thinking, discussing, and writing skills. Students enrolled in this course are expected to handle large amounts of reading and writing both in class and at home, including over breaks.
This year-long commitment begins with filling out this on-line application completely and continues with completing assigned summer reading and writing and working on approximately 2-4 hours of homework per week during the school year. In addition, be advised that work may be assigned over fall, winter, and spring breaks. Please note the following:
This application must be completed in one sitting; it cannot be saved, so make sure you have the time to finish it.
The application should be completed by the end of the January course selection registration deadline. If you are registering after this deadline, please complete the application and then email us to introduce yourself.
There is summer reading and writing; it will be posted on Ms. Hendry's website and Mrs. Kuntz's website by the end of May.
