Had the manoeuvre continued would have come into contact with bike at start of bridge. Came very close behind and beside bike. Regular over shoulder glances and assertive holding of primary position in lane caused driver to reconsider manoeuvre and cede the bike its right of way as the leading vehicle. 4	11/03/2012 16:55:31	Taxi (black cab)	george iv bridge	Evening rush hour (1530-1800ish)	Verbal abuse	Incident reported to company/organisation of other road user	I merged into traffic heading from Teviot Place to Forrest Road from the (green-lighted) island-path from Middle Meadow Walk. The offending taxi was the.vehicle behind me approaching the lights to George IV Bridge. I checked whims.me and moved out to the central line in order to turn into Chambers St. As it passed, the driver of the taxi shouted something along the lines of "...see you fucking wankers on your bikes". I was momentarily too surprised to react, but then (as oncoming traffic would have prevented me turning for a few seconds anyway) changed my mind and continued up towards the Missoni junction. Seeing me a couple of vehicles behind, the taxi U-turned whilst the lights were red and headed back south. I continued to pursue (noting as he passed that there was no passenger in the cab and that the shouter was therefore the driver), almost losing him after he turned down Chambers St (where I waited at the pelican crossing for a pedestrian) but seeing him turn swervily down Guthrie St. The narrow and right-angled street meant that I gained slightly despite his dangerously swift manoeuvring bit he was unfortunately able to get to the turning up to Candlemaker Row well ahead of me.	sk11 zfb		Black taxi with blueish temporary decals	Forrest Road on a Sunday- lots of parked cars and slow-moving traffic up with which I was keeping. The road bends to the left but the bus made no attempt to slow down to follow the bend in the road. Instead the bus driver drove across the bend in the road coming into bus lane and forcing me to move sharply across to the left to avoid being swiped by the centre portion of the bus. Had a not took evasive action, the car would have struck me.			Silver, VW passat estate.	I was highly visible. I had one solid rear light, one flashing rear light, one solid front light and one solid front light. I was on a straight section of road as we approached the bend. I could hear the vehicle accelerate as i/we approached the bed. The driver appeared to make the decision to overtake me, regardless of the tight, left hand, blind bend and regardless of what speed i was travelling at. Oncoming traffic moved to its left to avoid collision and make room for the overtaking car to squeeze between cyclist and oncoming car. Lights turn green in my favour - but the cars turning right from the main road continue going through after the lights had changed against them - 3 of them on red. The last of which stopped - so I started moving - then decided to follow the RLJs ahead of her anyway - I had to brake to avoid a collision. Apparently it's ok to pull out infront of a bike because when stopped at next traffic lights he asked "What's your problem? I didn't hit you." The traffic light was green. The car behind took exception to this and wanted to overtake, beeping their horn at me. I would not let them. (Because it would mean pulling into barriers on a road surface that is already bad) Then they tried to force me into the barriers and shouted that I should use the fucking cycle lane. A black SUV that possibly hadn't read the road correctly also sped past with them, and then had to turn left, almost hooking me. Then at the next set of lights, where I overtook, they shouted more things at me, but I had lost interest and wasn't listening at this point.			Red Corsa, male white driver and male white passenger early 20's.	I ride a dutch style bike with a basket, it is quite distinctive and non-threatening. Not wearing hi-vis, but light reflective clothing. (There isn't a ticky box for that) After the first encounter I shouted that they could go fuck themselves, which may have led to the second volley of abuse. Possibly. As I accelerate across through the junction, 6 seater cab SF62 AQR skips the red from S Clerk St turning left into Hope Park Terr in front of me - in my path, I need to brake sharply. Roads were empty - can only guess that as the road was clear in all directions except for me, cab driver was using all the usual excuses for an RLJ. I accellerated to pass the bus and struck the window to alert the driver that I was in this position. He then sounded his horn at me.		First Bus	White First bus with vehicle number 61220 on the "Haymarket X6" route.	My bike is fitted with Reelight Always on when moving dynamo lights on the handlebars and rear baggage rack and I was wearing hiviz.
