Interest in Free Tree from ALB Reforestation Project
Throughout the extent of our grant , Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County has planted over 1,000 trees in communities that were affected by the loss of trees from the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) infestation over the past 20 years. With the ALB Reforestation Project, we aim to restore tree canopy cover by replanting on private and public properties throughout Amityville, Farmingdale, Massapequa, Lindenhurst, Copiague, and West Babylon, where thousands of trees were removed. Trees offer many community benefits; improving air quality, reducing storm-water runoff, increasing property values, reducing energy costs, mitigating climate change, and beautifying neighborhoods.

At this time, we are able to offer FREE trees to eligible residents and public sites within a ½-mile from removed trees, if the original property owner has declined the planting of a new tree. If you are interested in a free tree, we are happy to check your address in our GIS map of removals and set up a site visit to determine your eligibility. (Please note the parameters for eligibility listed below.) There is a limited supply of trees and we will use i-Tree Landscape to prioritize planting needs. Our TREE CATALOGUE is available here: https://cornell.box.com/s/abkg2ebtfqasmqe6oh51xj85ncqrb7o1

Please fill out this form with your contact information and we will be in touch about planting. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 516-565-5265 ext. 15 or ALBReplanting@cornell.edu. I understand that properties that are eligible to receive a free tree are: 1) Within a 1/2-mile from a tree that was previously removed, but the owner declined a new one. 2) Clear of power and electric lines in the proposed planting site. 3) Agree to have CCE-NC plant the tree in the FRONT yard. 4) Agree to an on-site visit with CCE-NC staff to determine eligibility, based on planting location suitability and high-priority areas with limited tree canopy cover.
